Stellantis Multijet Turbodiesel Engines Now Compatible with Green HVO Fuel

Cleaner, Renewable Fuel Powers Stellantis’ Diesel Range...

Stellantis has taken a significant step toward sustainability, announcing that its full lineup of cars and light-duty commercial vehicles in Europe is now compatible with Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO) Diesel fuel, often referred to as “green Diesel.” This development allows Stellantis owners with compatible models to use a cleaner-burning, renewable fuel source, helping reduce emissions without requiring any engine modifications.

Understanding HVO Diesel –

Euro-Spec 2019 Jeep® Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon EcoDiesel. (Jeep).

Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO) Diesel is a type of biofuel created from renewable sources such as used vegetable oils, waste cooking oils, and animal fats. Through a hydrogenation process, HVO is refined into a sulfur-free Diesel alternative with lower levels of pollutants. Unlike conventional Diesel, HVO reduces carbon emissions while delivering the same level of power, fuel efficiency, and engine performance.

Compatibility Across Stellantis’ Diesel Lineup –

2022 Fiat Ducato Commercial Van. (Fiat Commercial).

HVO compatibility is now validated for Stellantis models featuring Euro 5 and Euro 6 engines, including many existing vehicles. Stellantis models that have “XTL” marked on their fuel filler necks are cleared for HVO Diesel, making it simple for drivers to transition to this sustainable fuel option.

In addition, several Stellantis engines without the XTL marking can still use HVO Diesel, including:

  • 1.3-liter MultiJet I-4
  • 1.6-liter MultiJet I-4
  • 2.0-liter MultiJet I-4
  • 2.2 MultiJet I-4 (including the updated 4.0 version)
  • 3.0 MultiJet (EcoDiesel) V6
  • 2.3 MultiJet (F1A – Fiat Ducato) I-4

This broad coverage allows Stellantis drivers to contribute to a cleaner environment without any significant adjustments to their vehicles.

Why HVO Diesel is a Game-Changer –

2021 Alfa Romeo Stelvio Veloce Ti. (Alfa Romeo).

For drivers, HVO Diesel offers several benefits. By switching to HVO, users can reduce their vehicle’s carbon emissions, improve local air quality with lower particulate matter and NOx emissions, and enjoy the same performance as traditional Diesel. HVO’s renewable origins make it a sustainable choice, aligning with Stellantis’ commitment to providing eco-friendly solutions that support long-term carbon reduction.

Stellantis Leads the Shift Toward Sustainable Fuels –

2021 Fiat Tipo Life Hatchback. (FIAT).

Stellantis’ support of HVO Diesel compatibility is part of its larger goal to lower the carbon footprint of its vehicle lineup. By endorsing a sustainable fuel option that works with current diesel models, Stellantis reinforces its dedication to environmentally responsible driving.

With HVO Diesel, Stellantis drivers in Europe now have an accessible way to make a positive environmental impact without sacrificing their vehicle’s performance. This initiative is part of Stellantis’ broader sustainability vision, which includes investing in alternative fuel sources, expanding EV options, and continuing to offer advanced solutions that help reduce emissions while meeting customer needs.

redriderbob:
HOV or R99 is a great fuel. Here CA we are lucky to have the fuel widely available since 2013. It is known as Renewable Diesel R99. R99 is the answer to meet and exceed current stringest emissions standards and performs great. Almost no emissions and more power and torque available to people disposal. I believe this fuel is the answer to save diesel engines for many years to come while the delusional people try to force on people EVs and why not. I am glad to hear that manufacturers are optimizing and tuning engines to take advantage of the great cetane number 75+. Also, HOV or R99 it is aromatics free, sulphur free, and has the same BTUs or more than petroleum based diesel. It can work on cold weather with no issues.
I'm addition, Has an unlimited shelf life making it a great choice for all diesel engines old and new because it exceed the D975 for lubricity.
