Stellantis (FCA US LLC), the parent company behind Jeep®, has recently filed an exciting new patent for a grille guard that’s more than just a front-end protector—it also converts into a sturdy bench, perfect for off-road adventures, camping, and tailgating. This concept, shown on the 2023 Jeep® Gladiator Sideburn Concept, has the potential to appear in the Jeep Performance Parts® (JPP) catalog as an accessory, providing more versatility for Jeep enthusiasts.
Smart Design Features –
The Jeep grille guard operates as a typical grille protector but also includes a pivoting mechanism, allowing it to rotate downward to form a stable, vehicle-mounted bench.
- Pivoting Mechanism: The grille guard is connected to the frame with a pivot bracket, allowing smooth movement between the upright, protective position and the horizontal, bench-ready position. This way, the grille guard not only protects the vehicle’s front end but can quickly convert into a functional bench.
- Support Assembly: Attached to the bumper, the support assembly includes a pivoting support member. In bench mode, this support member extends to secure the grille guard in place, creating a stable surface to sit on.
- Latch and Locking System: A clevis bracket and latch pin system hold the grille guard firmly in place when down in bench mode, ensuring a stable seating surface.
- Durable Design: The grille guard is built with a sturdy peripheral tube frame and upstanding tubes, ensuring durability and the ability to withstand rough terrain while also offering a reliable seating solution.
- Optional Seat Panel: A panel may be added to the grille guard when in the horizontal position, making for a more comfortable seat. This addition could enhance comfort during camping trips or at trail stops.
Practical Applications for the Jeep Grille Guard Bench –
The grille guard bench combines protection with practicality, fitting the needs of Jeep owners who value both function and adventure. For off-roaders, campers, and trailblazers, this feature could make it easier to enjoy nature stops, scenic overlooks, and even tailgate setups.
With its recent debut on the Gladiator Sideburn Concept, Jeep is clearly exploring the interest in this grille guard bench as an official product. If it makes its way into the Jeep Performance Parts catalog, this unique accessory would allow Jeep enthusiasts to enhance their vehicle’s versatility without additional seating gear.
