Standoff at Ram Truck Plant Ends with Arrest
Armed Employee Taken into Custody After Tense Situation at SHAP

An armed employee was taken into custody Saturday evening following a tense standoff at the Stellantis Sterling Heights Assembly Plant (SHAP) in Sterling Heights, Michigan — the facility best known for building the Ram 1500 pickup.
According to a statement from Stellantis, the incident began late Saturday, July 12th, when the man entered the plant while it was closed for the weekend. The plant wasn’t in full operation at the time, with only a limited number of skilled trades workers on site as part of a skeleton crew.

Police say the man barricaded himself inside the massive 5-million-square-foot facility located at 38111 Van Dyke Ave. Stellantis officials quickly initiated an evacuation of the few employees who were present. Local law enforcement, along with a S.W.A.T. team, responded to the scene.
Thankfully, no injuries have been reported. A spokesperson for Stellantis confirmed the man was taken into custody without further incident.

While many online speculated that a shooting had taken place, Stellantis clarified that no shots were fired and said that characterization was not accurate. “Employees will be offered counseling when production resumes,” the company said.
The motive behind the incident remains unclear, and authorities have not yet released additional details about the employee or what led to the standoff.

The Sterling Heights Assembly Plant is a critical facility in Stellantis’ North American operations. It’s responsible for building the Ram 1500, one of the company’s top-selling vehicles and a staple in the full-size pickup market.
We’ll continue to monitor updates as authorities release more information on the investigation.
