With all the excitement behind the all-new 2021 Ram 1500 TRX performance-off-roader, there are many in the truck world who are feeling left out. The RAM brand (when it was aligned with the Dodge brand), offered the ultimate street and track-oriented performance pickup with the Dodge Viper-powered Ram SRT-10. While that model lasted for three model years, many performance truck buyers have been waiting for a new interruption of a performance-based street pickup. Unfortunately, the truck world is more focused on the off-road market.
But it hasn’t stopped people from thinking of what the truck world would look like with a street/track-oriented version of the TRX. Our friend wb.artist20 has come up with one idea for a slammed, drag racing version of the Hellcat-powered off-roader. Using a set of mag wheels and Firestone drag slicks, the widebody TRX looks right at home with the slammed look with the wide tires underneath its wider fenders.
It gives us an idea, that RAM could of in fact use the TRX styling on such a vehicle and save lots of money on the need to have a completely altered body.
Rated at 702 horsepower and 650 lb.-ft. of torque, the 6.2-liter supercharged HEMI V8 engine powers the Ram TRX to a top speed of 118 mph. Combined with a high-torque-capacity TorqueFlite 8-speed automatic transmission, the Ram TRX delivers a new level of performance, 0-60 miles per hour (mph) in 4.5 seconds, and the quarter-mile in 12.9-seconds at 108 mph.
When you compare those numbers to the 8.3-liter Viper V10-powered 2006 Dodge Ram SRT-10 Regular Cab, the SRT-10 with its 500 horsepower and 525 lb.-ft of torque can barely keep up against the new performance off-roader at the quarter-mile with a 13.3-second pass at 107 mph (according to Truck Trend) with its 6-speed Tremec manual transmission.
It makes one wonder, why RAM doesn’t re-enter the performance street truck market? With street performance-based concept pickups like the Ram 1500 Rumble Bee, Lil’ Red Express Truck, and Ram 392 Quicksilver, many are still hoping that Ram will build such a truck.
