RUMOR: HEMI®-Power to Return to 2026 Dodge Durango

Our Sources Say That Dodge Is Listening to Its Fans...

Contrary to earlier reports, the beloved HEMI® V8 engine will continue to power the Dodge Durango R/T into the 2026 model year. According to our sources, Dodge has decided to extend the availability of the 5.7-liter (345 cubic-inch) HEMI V8 in the Durango R/T trim even longer than expected, responding to strong customer demand.

This decision marks a significant shift from the original plan, which would have seen the Durango lineup limited to the SXT, GT, and Citadel trims (the latter having been recently discontinued) with Pentastar V6 power for 2026. The move demonstrates Dodge’s commitment to listening to its enthusiast base and maintaining a performance edge in the SUV market.

The 5.7-liter HEMI V8 in the Durango R/T will continue to deliver 360 horsepower and 390 lb.-ft. of torque. This powerplant features Fuel Saver Technology with cylinder deactivation, allowing it to seamlessly switch between four-cylinder and V8 modes for improved fuel economy when full power isn’t needed.

For drivers who prefer the full V8 experience at all times, Dodge has thoughtfully included an Eco Mode button on the dash. This allows easy deactivation of the cylinder deactivation feature, ensuring the iconic HEMI rumble is always present.

The Durango R/T AWD with the Tow ‘N Go Package will remain a standout option for 2026. This configuration combines SRT-inspired styling with impressive capability, including:

  • Best-in-class towing capacity of 8,700 lbs
  • Increased top speed of 145 mph
  • Multiple drive modes (Track, Sport, Snow, and Tow)
  • Retuned SRT-performance exhaust for that unmistakable Dodge sound

While the automotive industry continues its shift towards electrification, Dodge’s decision to keep the HEMI V8 in the 2026 Durango lineup shows there’s still strong demand for traditional V8 power. This move should please Dodge enthusiasts and families looking for a blend of performance and practicality in their three-row SUV.

A new generation of the Dodge Durango is scheduled for a 2027 model year release. It remains to be seen whether Dodge will continue to offer HEMI V8 power in the next-generation Durango.

As the owner of a ‘21 GT, which I love, I think this platform could get a few more years. A slight refresh to the tail lights and maybe another front end update with an updated interior we could milk this till 2030.
Why not? She is highly rated in crash testing, mechanical she has improved since 2020, and she is still running the 3.6 and Hemi. It really is a perfect size and blows everything else away. Seeing it really has already paid for itself, price could also hold pretty much steady to be better than its competition. Market it big for the next few years and it will be fine. I see more and more PD’s going to it, and seeing the new Charger Pursuit ICE is at least 2 years out this is a great fill.
Come on Dodge keep this Durango till 2030!

Any chance the 2026 Grand Cherokee continues with the Penstastar?

"Rumors are circulating that the 2025 Grand Cherokee could receive an enhanced version of this engine, possibly branded the “Hurricane4 EVO,” with power expected to exceed 300 horsepower. This would allow the Grand Cherokee L to compete more directly with midsize SUV rivals like the Ford Explorer, which features a 2.3-liter EcoBoost engine producing 300 horsepower and 310 lb.-ft. of torque."

Remember when they tried the 2L GME-T4 in the Cherokee? Total flop. The 2L GME-T4 in the Wrangler was a total flop. Stop trying to make GME-T4 happen, NOBODY paying $50K for a Grand Cherokee, Wrangler, or Gladiator wants this engine.
