AUCTION: 1970 AMC Rebel Machine 4-Speed

This Rare AMC Legend Is Up For Grabs...

Listed on BringATrailer.com, this 1970 AMC Rebel Machine is a distinctive classic car that has undergone extensive aftermarket modifications. Boasting a range of enhancements, this Rebel Machine stands as a testament to customization and personalization in the automotive world. However, potential buyers should approach this vehicle with careful consideration, as its departure from the original factory specifications may not suit everyone’s preferences.

Originally finished in Bittersweet Orange, the car has undergone a transformation, with a new coat of white paint and a contrasting blue hood and rocker-panel treatment. The addition of red, blue, and white striping may appeal to those seeking a bold aesthetic, but for purists, it deviates significantly from the factory specifications. Chrome bumpers and trim, quadruple headlights, and the functional hood scoop with an integrated tachometer are notable features, though their cohesion with the overall design is debatable.

The interior showcases a black split front bench seat with a fold-down center armrest, adorned with tri-color accents. The embroidered “REBEL” lettering on the headrests and corresponding tri-color AMC logo on the rear bench seat are a nod to the car’s heritage. While the upholstery may appeal to some, the presence of cracks in the plastic trim on both front seatbacks raises questions about the overall condition and durability of the interior.

The Rebel Machine is equipped with an array of aftermarket enhancements, including polished Weld Draglite alloy wheels and Cooper Cobra Radial G/T tires. The addition of four-wheel disc brakes with Wilwood components and slotted and cross-drilled rotors offers improved stopping power. However, potential buyers should be aware that the shocks and springs have been replaced, potentially altering the car’s original handling dynamics.

Under the hood lies a modified 6.4-liter (390 cubic-inch) V8 engine, featuring an aftermarket camshaft, four-barrel carburetor, Edelbrock aluminum intake manifold, MSD electronic ignition, and Headers by Ed headers. While these upgrades may provide a boost in performance, purists may question the impact on the vehicle’s original character and reliability. The stainless-steel dual exhaust system with MagnaFlow mufflers and pre-muffler cutouts adds a throaty note to the engine’s soundtrack.
