Stellantis, through its subsidiary Fiat Chrysler Automóveis Brasil Ltda (FCA), has announced a recall for 2022 and 2023 Jeep® Compass 4xe models. The recall addresses a potential safety issue related to the battery charging cable connector, specifically the absence or improper fastening of the fixing nut. This issue could result in the failure of the vehicle’s charging system or cause the connector to overheat, which poses a serious fire risk. The defect has the potential to cause significant harm, including physical injury to vehicle occupants and bystanders.
Recall Details and Procedure –
Starting on September 9, 2024, owners of affected vehicles can schedule appointments at authorized Jeep dealerships throughout Brazil to have the issue inspected and resolved. The recall service involves verifying the condition of the battery charging cable connector and, if necessary, replacing the cable free of charge. The estimated repair time is approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes.
Jeep has urged all affected customers to contact their nearest dealership for service scheduling and to avoid any delays. The defect could have severe consequences if left unaddressed.
The recall impacts vehicles with chassis numbers between NPR86861 and PPS57251, though these chassis numbers are non-sequential. Performance Highlights of the Jeep Compass 4xe –
Despite the recall, the 2022-2023 Jeep Compass 4xe has been a popular choice in the Brazilian market, especially as the brand’s first electrified model available in the country. Combining two electric motors, including one on the rear axle, the Jeep Compass 4xe delivers a total of 240 horsepower, achieving 0 to 100 km/h (0 to 62 mph) acceleration in just 6.8 seconds. In addition to its sporty performance, the hybrid SUV boasts impressive fuel efficiency. Jeep claims it achieves 25.4 km/l (59.7 mpg) in urban driving conditions and a total range of over 900 kilometers (559 miles).
The Compass 4xe can also run up to 44 kilometers (27 miles) purely on electric power, allowing owners to drive without using gasoline. This makes it a highly economical and eco-friendly option for urban drivers. The vehicle can be recharged using standard 110-volt or 220-volt outlets and Wallbox-type charging systems.
