Stellantis (FCA US, LLC) is recalling 266 units of its 2021 to 2024 Ram ProMaster (VF) vans because they are missing a side door beam, and the tire placard contains incorrect seating capacity information. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 214, “Side Impact Protection,” and No. 110, “Tire Selection and Rims.”
A missing side door beam may not provide adequate occupant protection in a crash, increasing the risk of injury. Incorrect seating capacity information can result in an improperly loaded vehicle, increasing the risk of injury in a crash.
The suspect population began on September 10, 2021, when the 2021 MY production of vehicles built with a second-row seat configuration started, and ended on November 7, 2023, when the final 2024 MY second-row seat configuration vehicle was built. The suspect period was determined using vehicle production records.
Recall Chronology –
- On May 3, 2023, the FCA US LLC (“FCA US”) Technical Safety and Regulatory Compliance (“TSRC”) organization was notified of a potential issue relating to a missing side door beam and inaccurate tire placard label on some Ram ProMaster vehicles.
- From August 2023 through April 2024, FCA US TSRC met with FCA US engineering and manufacturing to review the issue, research and test the second-row seat kit developed in Europe, and determine the suspect population.
- On May 2, 2024, the FCA US TSRC organization recognized a vehicle build issue on certain vehicles related to a condition that can lead to the side door being built without a door beam, potentially resulting in noncompliance with FMVSS Nos. 110 and 214.
