The Dodge Ram SRT-10 was an absolute game-changer when it debuted in 2004, marrying the brute force of the Dodge Viper’s V-10 engine with the utility of a full-size pickup. Among this iconic model’s many variants, the VCA Edition—also known as the “Wolfgang” Edition after former Chrysler COO Wolfgang Bernhard—stands out as the rarest and most collectible. This week, one of these ultra-rare trucks is set to cross the block at the Mecum Kissimmee auction.
Bernhard, a key figure in revitalizing Dodge’s performance, played a pivotal role in establishing the Performance Vehicle Operations (PVO) team—originally known as Team Viper—and transforming it into the now-legendary Street and Racing Technology (SRT) team.
Only 52 units of the Ram SRT-10 VCA Edition were made, 50 of which were destined for private owners. Two additional units were produced and modified with an automatic transmission for NASCAR pace vehicle duties. These trucks, finished in a stunning Viper Electric Blue Pearl paint with Stone White racing stripes, were initially offered exclusively to Viper Club of America (VCA) members through a lottery.
Power and Performance –
Under the hood lies the heart of a monster: an 8.3-liter (505 cubic-inch) VIPER V-10 engine delivering a staggering 500 horsepower. Paired with a Borg Warner T56 6-speed manual transmission and a factory Hurst shifter, the SRT-10 was engineered to thrill. Other performance features include power disc brakes with red calipers, independent front suspension, rack-and-pinion steering, and a Dana 60 rear differential.
This particular truck, No. 29 of the 50 sold to private customers, has 29,448 miles on the odometer.
As a tribute to his contributions, Bernhard personally signed the intake manifold of each VCA Edition truck, further enhancing their exclusivity and collector appeal.
Exclusive Design –
Aesthetic touches on the VCA Edition set it apart, including the unique Electric Blue paint, white racing stripes, and a factory rear wing. The truck also features aerodynamic body panels and special “Viper Powered” emblems on the hood scoop. The Dark Slate Gray leather and suede seats are embroidered with SRT-10 logos, while a serialized ‘Wolfgang’ plaque adds exclusivity. Comfort isn’t sacrificed for performance, with air conditioning, power windows, locks, and a premium Infinity sound system equipped with a 6-CD changer.
We should point out that the leather bucket seats’ edges look worn after 20 years of use.
Auction Details –
Delivered to its original owner during Speed Weeks at Daytona in February 2004, this VCA Edition truck is not just a performance machine but a piece of history. The sale includes the original invoice, a clean CarFax report, and all the provenance a collector could want.
The Ram SRT-10 VCA Edition will go up for auction on Thursday, January 16th, at Mecum Kissimmee. If you’re looking for a truck that combines raw power, exclusivity, and history, this Viper-powered beast might just be the ultimate trophy.
