Rare 1968 Dodge Dart GTS Convertible For Sale

One Of Only 315 Ever Made, This Gold Mopar Muscle Car Boasts An Ultra-Rare Factory Feature

The Dodge Dart has long been a staple of the classic muscle car scene, but not all Darts are created equal. Some are rarer than others, and this 1968 Dodge Dart GTS Convertible currently for sale at Ideal Classic Cars in Venice, Florida, is among the rarest of them all. One of just 315 GTS convertibles produced that year, this stunning Mopar masterpiece comes in the eye-catching Medium Gold Metallic (JJ1) color and hides a high-performance heart under the hood.

A High-Performance Classic –

Dodge introduced the GTS trim in 1967 as the high-performance variant of the Dart. By 1968, the GTS came standard with a potent small-block 5.6-liter (340-cubic-inch) V8, while a big-block 6.3-liter (383 cubic-inch) V8 was optional. This particular example retains its numbers-matching 340 V8, paired with a numbers-matching A727 TorqueFlite automatic transmission. Enhancements include a Holley four-barrel carburetor and an Edelbrock aluminum intake manifold, adding a bit more punch to an already lively powertrain.

Ultra-Rare “Beak” Grille –

While the 1968 Dart GTS Convertible is rare in its own right, this car has an even scarcer feature hiding in plain sight: the unique front grille centerpiece, often referred to as the “beak.” These distinctive grille inserts were only installed on early 1968 models produced before December 1967. Their rarity has made them highly desirable among collectors, with prices reaching up to $5,000 just for the grille alone.

Beautifully Restored and Well-Preserved –

This Dart has been refinished in its factory-correct Medium Gold Metallic paint, complemented by a Black convertible top and black side stripes. The chrome accents shine brilliantly, and the overall presentation is near show-quality. Inside, the black vinyl bucket seats, center console, and factory tachometer keep the classic muscle car feel intact. Other features include power steering, front disc brakes, an 8 3/4-inch rear axle, and dual exhaust, ensuring that this GTS looks as good as it performs.

What’s It Worth? –

Classic 1968 Dodge Dart GTS models have been fetching strong prices at auction, with convertibles selling for as much as $76,000. Given its rare features and excellent condition, this Mopar muscle car is sure to command a premium. Interested buyers will need to contact Ideal Classic Cars directly for pricing.

If you’re a collector or an enthusiast looking for a rare piece of Dodge history, this 1968 Dodge Dart GTS Convertible is a must-see.
