A piece of automotive history is up for grabs as a 1940 Plymouth PT-105 pickup truck is currently being auctioned on BringATrailer.com. The auction has no reserve, meaning the highest bid takes home this classic half-ton beauty. Bidding concludes Wednesday, January 29, at 3:42 p.m. EDT.

This Plymouth PT-105 is finished in a striking green paint with contrasting black fenders and headlight buckets, giving it a classic vintage appearance. Yellow and black pinstriping adds a touch of flair, while details like the hood ornament, running boards with diamond-pattern step plates, and a Plymouth-branded tailgate showcase its era-specific charm.

Under the hood is a 3.3-liter (201 cubic-inch) L-head inline-six engine paired with a 3-speed manual transmission. Originally factory-rated at 79 horsepower and 154 lb-ft of torque, this powertrain is true to its time. It features a Chrysler-branded Carter carburetor and sends power to the rear wheels.

The truck’s cargo bed retains its period-correct wooden slats with painted runners and fittings, maintaining its original utilitarian purpose. While the bed is largely intact, there is a hole in the left-rear tailgate support, as noted by the selling dealer.

Inside, the cabin features a brown vinyl bench seat with color-matched headliner and door panels. The black-painted steel dashboard and doors maintain the classic theme, complemented by a three-spoke steering wheel. The gauge cluster includes an 80-mph speedometer, along with indicators for oil pressure, temperature, fuel level, and amperage. While the five-digit odometer shows 62,000 miles, the truck’s actual mileage remains unknown.

Additional features include four-wheel drum brakes, black-painted steel wheels with chrome hubcaps and trim rings, and Lester bias-ply tires. Notably, the truck also includes a painted front bumper, turn signals, dual taillights, and wood stake sides for a functional yet stylish exterior.

While the truck has areas of wear typical for its age—such as a cracked floor mat, a missing windshield wiper arm, and rust spots on the dashboard—it remains a remarkable survivor from a bygone era. A heater mounted under the dash and various tools included in the sale further add to its authenticity.

The Plymouth PT-105 pickup was part of the P-Series trucks produced by Chrysler Corporation between 1936 and 1942, designed to provide Plymouth-Chrysler dealerships with a reliable workhorse. This model is a testament to the durability and timeless appeal of the series.

Offered with a transferable New York registration (as the state does not issue titles for vehicles of this vintage), this 1940 Plymouth PT-105 is accompanied by its owner’s manual, spare hubcaps, and tools. Whether you’re a collector or an enthusiast looking for a unique project, this no-reserve auction is a rare opportunity to own a piece of pre-war American automotive history.
