Ram Rumored To Team With GMS Racing For 2026 NASCAR Comeback

Spencer Gallagher Tipped as Potential Driver in Bold new Ram-Backed Revival

The NASCAR rumor mill is running wide open, and one of the hottest storylines right now involves the possible return of the Ram brand to the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series. According to a report from The Daily Downforce, Ram may have locked in its first partner for its long-rumored 2026 comeback — GMS Racing.

If this pans out, it would be a huge development for both the Ram brand and GMS, a team that stepped away from the sport in 2023 after years of success in the Truck Series. GMS was a dominant force in the series during its time on the grid, racking up 45 wins and two championships. The team helped launch the careers of drivers like Sheldon Creed, Zane Smith, Rajah Caruth, and Justin Haley.

Now, GMS might be eyeing a big return — but this time, not with Chevrolet. The Daily Downforce reports that Ram is expected to back the team’s comeback, aligning with NASCAR’s spec Ilmor engine setup in the Truck Series. That makes things easier for the brand, which only needs to focus on body design rather than a full-blown engine development program.

The most surprising twist? Rumors suggest Spencer Gallagher — son of GMS owner Maury Gallagher — will be behind the wheel. While Gallagher hasn’t competed in NASCAR since 2018, he does have a solid history, including 60 Truck starts and 120 total national series races. He’s also set to return to racing this weekend at Rockingham in the ARCA Menards Series with Chevrolet’s Sigma Performance Services. He’ll follow that up with races at Talladega, Kansas, and Charlotte.

Gallagher’s reappearance on the track just as GMS is rumored to return with Ram has fans and insiders connecting the dots.

So why would GMS cut ties with Chevrolet? That’s still unclear, but with Spire Motorsports and McAnally-Hilgemann Racing currently carrying the Chevy banner in Trucks, GMS might see a Ram partnership as the right way to stand out. And with Stellantis reportedly exploring a return to NASCAR across multiple levels, including a potential Cup Series re-entry around 2027 or 2028, this could be the perfect entry point.

Even the Brakehard blog, a well-known voice in the NASCAR community, teased that more information on X is coming soon.

There’s no official word from Stellantis or NASCAR just yet — so for now, all of this is firmly in the rumor category. But between Gallagher’s sudden racing return, GMS’s potential revival, and multiple sources hinting that the Ram brand is ready to get back in the game, this is one rumor we’ll be keeping a very close eye on.

I'll watch a few of these races next year just to support Ram. It's been quite a while since I last watched a NASCAR Truck Series race, though.

Well if they want wins, it’s not going to be with Spencer. Daddy buying you a ride has almost never panned out. Jr was the most successful but that’s because he was excellent on restrictive plate tracks. Everywhere else he basically sucked.

The partnership in Cup is Dodge and Legacy. Has to happen
