RAM LATAM Introduces Its Updated Ram 1000 Compact Pickup Truck:

Introduces New Rebel Model For 2022...

While the all-new 2022 Ford Maverick compact pickup has been making headlines in the United States and Canada, the RAM brand has been hard at work on updating its own compact offering. The Ram 1000 has played an important role in the brand’s Latin American lineup since its debut in late-2018. Based on the successful Fiat Toro, it shares the Small-Wide 4×4 architecture that also underpins the Jeep Compass (MP) and Jeep Renegade (BU).

Two different trim levels are available for 2022. The Big Horn trim returns as the mainstream trim level, however, there are two different appearances packages available. A Chrome Appearance Package gives the Big Horn a more upscale look, while a Night Edition model adds black exterior accents for a more sporty appearance. There will also be a more off-road-oriented Rebel model available as well. It marks the first time that the Rebel name will be used on another vehicle other than the Ram 1500.

The Ram 1000 rolls into the 2022 model year with a variety of styling, technology, and engine updates. A completely new grille design integrates the Ram 1000 with other vehicles within the RAM portfolio. The truck still carries over its aggressive LED Daytime Running Lights (DRLs), standard LED headlamps, LED fog lamps, a new hood design, and bolder front lower fascia.

Inside the Ram 1000 is where most of the change was focused. Using inspiration from the Ram 1500, with a new instrument panel, which houses an all-new digital cluster and a new center console, both perfectly integrated with different materials and new leather upholstery for the seats and, in the case of the Rebel, red stitching and embroidered “Rebel” text and RAM’s head logo. The cabin also received a new dual-zone digital air conditioning system, which can also be controlled from the Uconnect 5 touchscreen.

Another notable change is the greater offer of storage compartments, which almost doubled their capacity in relation to the previous generation. The center console, for example, gained two larger cupholders alongside the handbrake handle. In front of the gear shifter, there is another space to store objects, which holds the “RamCharger” wireless phone charger (optional in both Big Horn and Rebel). To improve space in the cabin, the control of the 4×4 functions of the Rebel version was placed on keys under the new air conditioning controls.

There is also the addition of a new 10.1-inch Uconnect 5 touchscreen which will be available on Rebel models. The 10.1-inch Uconnect system is displayed vertically, similar to the Ram 1500’s 12-inch display. The new information system joins the standard 8.4-inch Uconnect 5 system that made its debut this past year.

Under the hood, the Big Horn comes with a 1.8-liter E.torQ inline-four-cylinder. The 1.8-liter is flex-fuel capable and produces 139 horsepower and 19.2 kgfm (139 ft.-lbs.) of torque on ethanol and 135 horsepower and 18.7 kgfm (135 ft.-lbs.) on gasoline. the E.torQ offering can be paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission. All Big Horn models will only be available in a front-wheel-drive (4×2) configuration.

Unfortunately, the Ram 1000 will not get the turbocharged 1.3-liter “Firefly” or GSE-T4 inline-four-cylinder engine from its Toro counterpart.

For those looking for a four-wheel-drive (4×4), the Rebel will come with a 2.0-liter Multijet II turbo-diesel four-cylinder mated to a ZF-sourced 9-speed automatic. The Rebel adds hill descent control (HDC), a crankcase protector, and an integrated front bumper skid plate. The 2.0-liter delivers 170 horsepower and 35.7 kgfm (258 ft.-lbs) of torque.

When it comes to equipment, both models offer a different experience.
