PRE-ORDER: YJ Grille and Winch Bumper from Unofficial Use Only

Retro-Inspired YJ Grille and Winch Bumper Now Available for Pre-Order from Unofficial Use Only...

Greg Henderson, the visionary behind Unofficial Use Only (@unofficialuseonly), has announced the opening of pre-orders for his latest creation: a YJ-styled grille designed for 2018 to present Jeep® Wrangler (JL) and 2020 to present Jeep Gladiator (JT) models. Jeep fans now have the chance to bring a retro twist to their vehicles while nodding to the classic Wrangler (YJ) style with its iconic square headlights.

Henderson, known for his creativity and dedication to the Jeep community, first debuted this retro grille design on custom builds like the “Inlander” Jeep Gladiator for Steer Smarts and the “YJL” for Quadratec. These builds drew attention for their blend of nostalgic aesthetics and modern performance, featuring hand-crafted grilles that paid homage to the 1987 to 1995 Wrangler YJ’s unique look. Due to popular demand, Henderson has transformed his custom grille into a mass-market product, now available for enthusiasts to install on their own Wrangler JL and Gladiator JT vehicles.

A Special Pre-Order Opportunity –

Pre-orders for the YJ-styled grille are now live at a discounted price of $540, a 20% reduction from the regular $675 MSRP. This limited-time offer includes the grille, installation hardware, and headlight adapters, ensuring everything needed for a smooth installation is included. For those who act fast, the pre-order guarantees early access to one of the first production units. The discount is available until the first batch of 75 pre-orders is fulfilled. Once the pre-order target is hit, the injection mold tool will be initiated, with full production expected to take approximately 18 weeks.

Bringing YJ Style to the Modern Wrangler and Gladiator –

The YJ-styled grille faithfully recreates the design that helped define the Wrangler YJ era. In 1987, Jeep transitioned from the iconic CJ to the YJ, introducing a more refined driving experience and, most notably, the switch to rectangular headlights. This bold design choice made the YJ instantly recognizable on the road. While Jeep returned to round headlights with the Wrangler (TJ) model in 1997, the YJ remains a favorite among enthusiasts for its unique character.

With this new grille, Henderson allows modern Jeep owners to blend that YJ heritage into their JLs and JTs. The grille is made from OEM-quality materials, ensuring durability and a seamless fit with the vehicle’s body. Unofficial Use Only is touting the grille as “OEM-plus,” meaning it’s designed with the same quality standards as original factory parts but with additional improvements where possible.

What sets Unofficial Use Only apart is Henderson’s dedication to keeping production close to home. Like all of his products, the YJ-styled grille is proudly designed, developed, and manufactured in the United States. In an era where many companies turn to overseas manufacturing for cost savings, Henderson is committed to supporting local craftsmanship and delivering top-tier products to the Jeep community.

Other Unofficial Use Only Products –

Unofficial Use Only has successfully released their OEM-Plus Replacement Door Pockets for the JL and JT products. This product ditches the clumsy nets in the doors of the modern Jeeps, allowing for more secure and better storage packaging for owner’s gear.

Henderson is also gearing up pre-orders for a YJ-styled winch bumper for the JL and JT models. Like the grille, this bumper nods to the straightforward, utilitarian design of past Wranglers while incorporating modern engineering for enhanced strength and functionality.

Available at a 20% pre-order discount ($600 during pre-ordering), the final price for the painted and assembled bumper is expected to be around $750 MSRP. For DIY enthusiasts, a reduced-price option will also be available for those who prefer to handle the assembly themselves.

The bumper is constructed from durable 1/4-inch plate steel and is designed to resemble the simple rectangular bumpers in the Wrangler YJ and TJ models. An integrated winch plate is included, eliminating the need for an additional winch mount—though buyers will need to purchase a fairlead mount separately. Additionally, the bumper features removable steel end caps, allowing it to be configured either as a full-width bumper or a more compact “stubby” style, depending on the user’s needs. Inside, gussets reinforce the bumper, providing exceptional strength without adding unnecessary complexity.

I don’t know why people that aren’t designers, attempt to “improve” on an already good design. Everytime I see one of the “angry eyes” grilles I just shake my head and think “moron”. This is no different.

This is truly an atrocious looking unit, especially from straight on. Sideways almost looks marginally decent, almost. But a fail
