After pulling the wraps off its new “Project 363” SUV on the finale of Big Brother Brazil 2021 (BBB21), the FIAT Brazil team launched a social media campaign to find a new name for its latest vehicle. Three names were purposed – Domo (House), Tuo (Your), or Pulse. Over the past two months, 380,000 votes were cast on FIAT Brazil’s dedicated page for the Project 363 vehicle and yesterday the automaker finally released the winning choice.

Wednesday, Herlander Zola, Director of Brand FIAT South America and Commercial Operations Brazil, announced that the public had chosen Pulse as the name for the new SUV.

“Pulse is a fantastic name that allows for countless associations. It has energy, movement and is extremely connected. It expresses the essence and personality of the vehicle: an SUV with FIAT’s soul, but which, at the same time, has its own touch, beat, and rhythm”, stated Zola.

In fact, Pulse won over a majority of fans, with 65% of the total votes. Domo came in second with 25%, while Tuo placed third with 10% of the vote. The Pulse name led the entire way through the two-month contest.

While there aren’t many details about the Pulse SUV that have been released, our good friends at Auto Segredos (Auto Secrets), have discussed a lot of details about the newest FIAT vehicle. This includes its powertrain choices of a naturally aspirated 1.3-liter FireFly inline-four-cylinder engine making around 100 horsepower and 99 lb.-ft. of torque on ethanol. There will also be the option of a turbocharged 1.0-liter FireFly inline-three-cylinder engine delivering around 130 horsepower and an estimated torque between 123 lb.-ft. and 137 lb.-ft. of torque. The 1.0-liter will more than likely come with a CVT transmission, while the 1.3-liter will have both manual and CVT options.

In the world of small sub-crossovers, Pulse will play a crucial part in the Latin American lineup for the brand. Expect Pulse, to go on sale in the LATAM in September.

Nope, different zoning standards.

Too small for the USA. I can't remember what the platform is called, but it is a size smaller than the SUSW. The Fiat Tipo and Jeep Renegade are SUSW we don't need to get any smaller than that on US highways.

That smaller platform has supported an incredible number and variety of different vehicles, hatchbacks, sedans, wagons, pickup trucks and vans. Now we are seeing crossovers ans a small SUV. I would love to see that variety on the SUSW platform, but with US bound products.

I agree, the Brazilian design team seems very talented. Your comment also affirms my statement that to not take advantage of this resource and their resultant product is wastefully redundant for our North American operations. Perhaps this SUV does not fit our market, but there could be a Ram or Jeep or most important, a Chrysler hiding under our noses in Brazil. Sadly, the future of a Chrysler brand rests fundamentally in what comes out of Europe, China or Brazil if the resources are not given to Chrysler to do its own in house rebirth.
