CAUGHT: Right-Hand-Drive (RHD) Jeep® Grand Cherokee L:

Bound For Australia In First Half Of 2022...

The three-row Jeep® Grand Cherokee L (WL75) has been an instant success for the Jeep brand. So much so, that Stellantis has made the Detroit Assembly Complex – Mack (DACM) that produces the Grand Cherokee L a top priority for the source of its obtained semiconductor chips to keep up with the high demand of the newest variant of the most-awarded SUV nameplate in history.

Since its launch in the United States, the Jeep brand continues to roll out the accessibility of the Grand Cherokee L across the globe. This includes countries and regions like the Middle East, Mexico, and Korea. There are many other markets that will also be getting the Grand Cherokee L. With that being said, some of those markets include right-hand-drive (RHD) versions.

Alongside the DACM facility, the Ranjangaon Assembly Plant in India will also produce Grand Cherokee (WL) models. We expect that the RHD Grand Cherokee L will be one of the Grand Cherokee variants produced there. Jeep already builds the Indian-market Compass (M6) and Wrangler Unlimited (J6) at Ranjangaon. The recently unveiled Jeep Commander three-row D-segment SUV will be produced there as well under the Meridian name.

These RHD variants of the Grand Cherokee L continue to test on the roads of Italy, getting ready for markets like Australia, New Zealand, India, and others. Our friends at GabetzSPYUnit, happened to catch these two (one Summit, the other a Summit Reserve) models testing near a Stellantis engineering facility.

The WL has been designed and engineered to deliver an unmatched combination of legendary 4×4 capability, class-leading on-road refinement, premium craftsmanship both inside and out, in a stylish package that offers the most advanced safety and technology features than ever before. Several models of the WL have already been spotted testing in Australia, recently. That even includes the two-row electrified Grand Cherokee 4xe (WL74).

For the Australian market, the Grand Cherokee L will be offered with both a 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 engine rated at 293 horsepower and 260 lb.-ft. of torque or a 5.7-liter HEMI V8 delivering at 357 horsepower and 390 lb.-ft. of torque. The Grand Cherokee L will not receive a 4xe variant. We are told this is due to the location of where the battery pack would location and the fact that the L features sliding second-row seats.

Unfortunately, a diesel option will also not be available on the fifth-generation Grand Cherokee. Sorry diesel fans. We are sure with all of the backlash from the whole “dieselgate” fiasco, that the EcoDiesel is on its way out in favor of more electrified options.

It appears that the Jeep team has truly created a vehicle that will fit every need for every E-segment SUV customer. It is expected that the RHD Grand Cherokee L will make its official debut in Australia in the first half of 2022, with the two-row Grand Cherokee coming later in the year.
