Nitrocross Dodge Hornet R/T FC1-X Makes Its Debut

New 1,000 HP Electric Dodge Hornet FC1-X Set To Compete In Group E Class...

Dreyer & Reinbold Racing (DRR) is set to make waves in the 2024-2025 Nitrocross Series with the debut of four electric Dodge Hornet R/T FC1-X race cars in the highly competitive Group E class. These high-performance, 1,000-plus-horsepower machines will showcase Dodge’s commitment to both speed and electrification, with DRR fielding the cars throughout the 10-race season, beginning with the series opener at Richmond Raceway on September 7-8, 2024.

Dodge Hornet R/T FC1-X: Electric Powerhouse –

The Dodge Hornet R/T FC1-X race car is a fully electric, all-wheel-drive powerhouse. It boasts four axial flux motors, generating a staggering 1,070 horsepower (800 kW) together. This immense power allows the FC1-X to accelerate from 0-60 mph in just 1.4 seconds, producing nearly 2g of acceleration from a standstill. Built to handle the demanding conditions of Nitrocross races, which feature both pavement and dirt surfaces, the Hornet R/T FC1-X is designed for intense racing, with a chassis capable of handling the sport’s signature 200-foot gap jumps and wild, close-quarters battles.

The car’s advanced engineering includes a tubular chassis, a carbon-fiber tub for reduced weight, and sophisticated suspension systems that ensure stability and performance on the mixed-surface courses. The Hornet R/T FC1-X is also equipped with an Alcon braking system, electric power-assisted steering, and front and rear double wishbone suspension with adjustable settings and 12 inches of wheel travel to navigate the challenging terrains of Nitrocross.

Talented Driver Lineup –

Leading the charge for DRR is 17-year-old Lia Block, the youngest competitor in the Group E class and the first and only woman to race in this category. Block has already earned a name for herself as the youngest American Rally Association champion and is poised to make history in Nitrocross. She will be joined by a formidable lineup of international talent, including two-time Group E champion Robin Larsson from Sweden, Fraser McConnell from Jamaica, and Andreas Bakkerud from Norway.

Larsson, 32, brings extensive rallycross experience to the team, having won seven Nitrocross races over the past two seasons. McConnell, 25, is a rising star, with four Group E victories under his belt in the last two years, while Bakkerud, also 32, has consistently placed in the top five in the series and is known for his aggressive driving style.

The Fast-Growing Nitrocross Series –

Nitrocross, founded by motorsports legend Travis Pastrana in 2020, is quickly becoming one of North America’s most exciting and fastest-growing motorsports series. Known for its thrilling combination of pavement and dirt tracks, massive jumps, and high-speed action, Nitrocross offers a unique blend of racing excitement across five classes. The series features a high-octane format, with practice sessions, qualifying rounds, heat races, and main events that challenge drivers and teams to perform at their best.

The 2024-2025 Nitrocross season will consist of 10 events across five locations:

  • Richmond Raceway in Richmond, Virginia (Sept. 7-8)
  • Utah Motorsports Campus in Salt Lake City (Oct. 5-6)
  • Firebird Motorsports Park near Phoenix (Nov. 15-16)
  • Miami Marine Stadium (Jan. 11-12)
  • Las Vegas course (March 1-2)

Fans can catch the action all season long on FOX Sports, bringing Nitrocross into homes across the country.

Dodge’s Entry into Nitrocross –

Dodge’s participation in Nitrocross marks the brand’s first foray into this fast-paced, electrified form of motorsport. As the first official manufacturer entry into the series, Dodge aims to engage a new, younger audience. According to Matt McAlear, Dodge brand CEO, “Nearly 75% of Nitrocross fans are between the ages of 18 and 34, making this the perfect venue for Dodge to expand its motorsports presence and showcase the Dodge Hornet.”

In addition to competing in the races, Dodge will offer fans the chance to experience the Hornet firsthand through Dodge Hornet Rally Rides at select events, including the Richmond opener. Fans can ride in a production-spec Dodge Hornet R/T for hot laps on a specially designed-course.

Sure Dodge, via Alfa Romeo, via Stellantis messed up a bit so far with the Hornet, but it is reassuring and frankly necessary not to give up on this really good product like they did with the very correctable Dart. This beast is awesome and fitting of the image of a scary Hornet. Don’t give up Dodge, massage it, improve it, price it more competitively, maybe build a coupe off it, but DON’T give up. Not again.
