Next-Gen Fiat Toro Could Go Abarth in 2028

Rumors From Brazil Hint at a Abarth-Tuned 280HP Compact Pickup

Some spicy news is coming out of Brazil for fans of performance pickups. Word on the street is that the next-generation Fiat Toro (codenamed F3P) will be getting the Abarth treatment. If true, this would make the Toro the third Abarth-branded vehicle built in Brazil, following the compact Pulse and Fastback crossovers.

According to exclusive information from Auto+, the all-new Toro is set to enter production in 2027, with a full market launch expected in 2028. This next-generation model will still ride on the Small Wide 4×4 Wide platform—shared with the current Jeep® Compass for the Brazilian market—but will undergo a radical design overhaul.

Fiat reportedly wants the new Toro to stand out from its cousin, the Ram Rampage, by offering a sportier and more dynamic design. A coupe-style fastback silhouette is in the works, where the roll bar blends cleanly into the rear bed. That bed, by the way, will be shaped more like a trunk for a sleeker look. The overall aesthetic will become boxier and more aggressive, with pixelated lighting elements adding to the modern vibe.

Now for the fun part—the rumored Abarth version. This performance variant will dial things up with carbon fiber exterior accents, beefier wheels, painted lower bodywork, and a panoramic roof. Inside, expect a darkened cabin with high-end materials, carbon fiber trim pieces, a full digital instrument cluster, and a premium sound system.

Under the hood, the Toro Abarth is said to pack a turbocharged 2.0-liter GME-T4 four-cylinder flex-fuel engine. Rumors suggest it could make around 280 horsepower (209 kW) and 40.8 kgfm (about 295 lb-ft) of torque. Power would be sent to all four wheels through a 9-speed automatic transmission (the same powertrain as the Ram Rampage R/T). To live up to the Abarth name, the truck will feature revised suspension, more direct steering, and a sporty exhaust system—likely borrowing engineering cues from the Abarth Fastback SUV.

If the rumors prove true, Fiat will soon offer a unique entry into the performance pickup space, blending utility and sport in a very Brazilian way. We’ll be keeping an eye out for more updates as 2027 approaches.
