Mopar Introduces The Ram Rebel OTG Concept For SEMA:

Mopar Creates Ultimate Overlanding Ram 1500 Pickup...

Mopar has introduced its 2020 Ram 1500 Rebel OTG (Off The Grid) Concept for the 2019 Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) Show this weekend. For people who thought that the all-new 2020 Jeep® Gladiator Rubicon was the ultimate Overlanding pickup, you haven’t seen what’s capable of the Rebel when the Mopar design team gets their hands on Ram’s half-ton off-roader.

“Unlike traditional ‘four-wheeling,’ in Overlanding the journey is the final objective. The goal is to explore rather than conquer obstacles,” said Joe Dehner, Head of Ram Truck and Mopar Design. “This is why we developed this concept, to allow vehicle-supported, self-reliant adventure travel, typically exploring remote locations and interacting with other cultures. This is the vehicle that I’d like to have whenever I choose to go ‘off the grid.’”

Using the 2020 Ram 1500 Rebel EcoDiesel Crew Cab 4×4 as its basis, the Rebel OTG Concept adds more capability with the addition of performance parts from the Mopar catalog as well as several new concept parts. A concept Mopar 2-inch lift kit and aggressive 35-inch Goodyear Wrangler MT/R tires wrapped in Mopar beadlock wheels, make the OTG Concept ready for most obstacles. Mopar’s new functional snorkel air intake for the EcoDiesel, as well as a new custom front bumper design that houses an integrated Warn winch (from the Ram 2500 Power Wagon) also helps to improve off-road capability.

Front and rear fender flares, as well as step assist rock rails, have been installed to aid in the protection of the vehicle’s exterior over rough terrain. A new concept rear bumper that has been adapted from the Ram 1500 Tradesman, helps improve the OTG Concept’s departure angle by relocating the exhaust, while a concept hide-away bed step hidden underneath the bumper makes loading and unloading easier.

Painted in the popular “Mojave Sand” color (recently re-introduced on the 2019 Ram 1500 Classic Warlock), a new larger grille with unique flow-through R-A-M badging, helps the OTG Concept stand out from other Rebel trucks on the road. Mopar also added Rebel graphics from their Mopar Custom Shop on the side of the bed, as well as the hood to help add more character to the truck.

When it comes to functionality, one of the most accessorized areas of this truck is the pickup bed. Utilizing Ram’s new multifunction tailgate to make accessibility even easier, Mopar has equipped a retractable battery-powered cooler and kitchen unit with a gas-powered stove and sink with an on-board water system in the bed. The on-board water system also can be used with the portable shower also tucked away in the back of the truck. A new bed rack system that fits atop of the bed, carries a collapsible rooftop tent that can be accessed using a stowaway ladder. An additional brace structure is mounted above the cab and allows for more storage space for tools and equipment if needed.

Mopar’s design team also added additional features to make life living off-the-grid even easier, starting with a solar panel set that can be deployed at moment’s notice to generate electricity. A backup power supply eliminates the need for a gas-powered generator and allows for more cargo capacity. An onboard solar-powered air compressor in the bed cargo area gives the user the ability to use special tools or the ability to inflate tires after having to air them down for added off-road traction.

When it comes to vehicle recovery and extraction, the OTG Concept carries additional equipment such as traction mats (which are attached to the rack system) and a high-lift hack for uneven ground (mounted to the top of the cab). The OTG Concept is also fitted with several exterior lighting systems to improve off-roading at night or needing light around the campsite. A set LED off-road driving lamps have been mounted on the front bumper, while supplemental LED backup lamps have been incorporated into the rear bumper, as well as task lighting that has been attached to the rear rack system provides lots of nighttime illumination.

With the EcoDiesel’s 260 horsepower at 3,600 rpm and 480 lb.-ft. of torque at 1,600 rpm, the 3.0-liter diesel will be right at home tackling the technical off-road tasks that maybe be thrown at the OTG Concept. The 3.0-liter EcoDiesel will also provide a vast range exceeding 1,000 miles (1,609 km) with its 33-gallon fuel tank and making it the ideal truck for long-distance travel.
