Maserati North America, Inc. (Maserati) has issued a recall for 1,710 vehicles, including the 2023–2024 Maserati Grecale and 2024 Maserati GranTurismo models. The issue stems from a software fault in the Central Vision Park Assist Module (CVPAM), which may prevent the rearview camera image from displaying when the vehicle is in reverse.
This defect violates Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 111, which mandates clear rear visibility in vehicles.
Models and Affected Periods –
The recall includes:
- 2023–2024 Maserati Grecale: 1,602 units
- The affected vehicles were built between May 5, 2022, and December 1, 2023.
- 2024 Maserati GranTurismo: 108 units
- The impacted production window is October 20, 2022, to November 28, 2023.
Similar vehicles built outside these periods were either updated with corrected software or had their CVPAMs replaced before leaving the factory.
Recall Chronology –
The recall process began with concerns raised during internal investigations and escalated following field data analysis:
- July 2023: Stellantis North America informed Maserati about a potential software issue affecting the CVPAM. Although initial findings showed no direct evidence of failures in Maserati vehicles, the company launched an internal investigation to confirm the scope of the problem.
- August–November 2023: Maserati collaborated with the software supplier to conduct extensive testing. The supplier indicated that while the software contained deviations, the specific conditions causing failures were unlikely to affect Maserati vehicles. Despite this reassurance, Maserati opted to monitor the situation closely.
- November 22, 2023: Maserati’s Vehicle Regulation Committee (VRC) reviewed the supplier’s findings and decided to continue monitoring rather than issuing an immediate recall, given the absence of confirmed failures.
- September 2024: Maserati re-opened the investigation after analyzing 10 suspected warranty claims that pointed to potential rearview camera failures. These reports raised concerns about the real-world occurrence of the issue, prompting Maserati to take further action.
- November 19, 2024: Following a detailed analysis of field data, Maserati’s VRC determined that the issue warranted a voluntary safety recall. The recall ensures compliance with federal regulations and prioritizes customer safety.
