During the recent Super Grip NHRA Thunder Valley Nationals at Bristol Dragway, Madi Turley, a rising star in Sportsman racing and developmental driver for DH Davies Racing (DHDR), took center stage as the NHRA Grassroots Racing ambassador. Turley, a 17-year-old from Rutledge, Tenn., showcased her skills and passion for drag racing throughout the event, alongside displaying her Dodge Challenger R/T and making a thrilling exhibition pass on Sunday.
Reflecting on her role as ambassador, Turley expressed enthusiasm about engaging with fans: “Being the NHRA Grassroots Racing ambassador was an awesome experience. I had a lot of fans come up and ask about my race car and some came back two or three times with more questions. I was happy to give them some information on how they could get involved with drag racing.”
Turley, known for her victories at Bristol Dragway, seized the opportunity to interact with both spectators and professional drivers during the event. “Meeting with NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series drivers and witnessing the competition firsthand was invaluable,” Turley remarked. “It’s all part of my journey to learn and improve in Sportsman racing.”
As a developmental driver with DH Davies Racing, Turley emphasized the support and learning opportunities provided by the team: “Being a DHDR developmental driver has been a great experience because we are able to make connections with sponsors and other drivers to keep us racing. David Davies has been an amazing supporter, and I can’t thank him enough.”
Beyond her racing achievements, Turley has emerged as a role model for young enthusiasts, particularly advocating for women in motorsports. At Bristol Dragway, she engaged with young fans eager to learn about entering the sport: “It was eye-opening for many fans to see me beside my Dodge Challenger R/T race car. The support from the crowd during my pass was incredible, and I felt honored to represent Sportsman racers and grassroots racing.”
Looking ahead, Turley plans to continue her racing endeavors while navigating through her upcoming high school graduation. “Racing will always be a major part of my life,” she affirmed. “I’m excited for more races this season and whatever opportunities come next.”
