VIDEO: How To Work The Drag Features In The Scat Pack 1320:

Understanding The Technology That Makes The 1320, Fast On The Track...

It takes a lot of technology to make the 2019 Dodge Challenger R/T Scat Pack 1320 the fastest naturally aspirated, street-legal muscle car on the market. Sure you can throw on a set of drag radial tires like the set of Nexen SUR4G Drag Spec 275/40R20 street-legal drag radial tires that come on the 1320 on other trims. But what else goes into pushing around a 485 horsepower and 475 lb.-ft. of torque 6.4-liter HEMI V8 in a car that weighs around 4,200 lbs?

Thanks to its big brother the 840 horsepower 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon, the Dodge Challenger R/T Scat Pack 1320 comes with the 8.4-inch Uconnect touchscreen that enables the driver to engage Launch Control and Line Lock within the Performance Control app. It also lets the driver select modes, including Drag Mode which sets up the Adaptive Damping Suspension to optimize weight transfer for the best launch, while working with the steering-wheel-mounted shift paddles to activate the transbrake, which locks the output shaft of the automatic transmission to hold the car stationary before a standing start.

The Dodge Challenger R/T Scat Pack 1320 also features Torque Reserve. The Torque Reserve works in conjunction with the TransBrake and Launch Control, by managing fuel flow to cylinders and controlling spark advance or retard to balance engine rpm and torque to maximize power delivery and launch performance.

Extreme-duty 41-spline rear axle half shafts adopted from the Challenger SRT Demon are also standard. With a performance-tuned asymmetrical limited-slip differential with 3.09 final drive, Launch Assist (which uses wheel speed sensors to watch for driveline-damaging wheel hop at launch and, in milliseconds, modifies the engine torque to regain full grip), Launch Control (controls tire slip during straight-line acceleration), and 20-inch x 9.5-inch aluminum-forged wheels with knurled bead seats to minimize tire slip on the wheel, shows that this is no ordinary Scat Pack Challenger.

Dodge claims that the 2019 Dodge Challenger R/T Scat Pack 1320 will run the quarter-mile (1,320 feet) in 11.7-seconds at 115mph. We will soon put that to the test this week, as we are planning to run the car this week at our local drag strip Mission Raceway Park in Mission, British Columbia, so stay tuned to the MoparInsiders.com YouTube channel.
