Jeep® is set to expand its Wagoneer lineup with the addition of 4xe models, slated for release in 2026, according to sources close to MoparInsiders. These all-new Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer 4xe models will bring a fresh electrified powertrain to the lineup. However, unlike traditional plug-in hybrids (PHEVs) like the Renegade, Compass, Grand Cherokee, and Wrangler 4xe offerings, the Wagoneer 4xe will be based on the same range-extending electric vehicle (REEV) powertrain as the 2025 Ram 1500 Ramcharger, which combines an internal combustion engine with a high-capacity battery and electric motors for improved efficiency and performance.
The 2025 Ram 1500 Ramcharger’s powertrain uses a liquid-cooled 92 kWh battery pack paired with a 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 engine that drives an onboard 130 kW generator. This generator powers both a 250 kW front electric drive module (EDM) and a 238 kW rear EDM, providing all-wheel-drive capability. The front EDM features an automatic wheel-end disconnect, which helps maximize efficiency by allowing the front wheels to spin freely under certain driving conditions. Meanwhile, the rear EDM is equipped with an optional electronic-locking rear differential for enhanced performance.
The powertrain works by flowing power from the Pentastar engine to the onboard generator, which converts mechanical power into electrical energy. The generator can charge the battery when it’s low or supply power directly to the electric drive modules, allowing the Wagoneer 4xe to deliver maximum power without needing to rely solely on its battery. The system also allows drivers to preserve battery power when needed. With no direct mechanical connection between the engine and the wheels, it offers a smooth and efficient driving experience.
The liquid-cooled 92 kWh battery is designed with a pouch cell format in a parallel configuration and is positioned under the floor to maintain a flat load floor, a feature that will likely be carried over to the Wagoneer 4xe. Ram offers fast recharging solutions for its Ramcharger with the ability to add up to 5 miles of all-electric range per minute using a 400-volt DC fast charger at up to 175 kW.
With the STLA Frame platform, the Wagoneer 4xe will offer features like a multi-link independent rear suspension and an active-level, four-corner air suspension system with five modes: Entry/Exit, Aero, Normal, Off-Road 1, and Off-Road 2. The Wagoneer 4xe should provide a smooth, comfortable ride on highways and rugged off-road terrain.
The Jeep Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer 4xe models are expected to match or exceed the performance figures of the Ramcharger, which boasts 663 horsepower and 615 lb-ft of torque, and a 0-60 mph time of just 4.4 seconds. Additionally, the Ramcharger can tow up to 14,000 pounds and carry a best-in-class payload of 2,625 pounds, all while offering an impressive range of 690 miles (1,111 kilometers) with a full battery and gasoline tank.
This hybrid setup offers the benefits of an electric powertrain, such as reduced emissions and enhanced fuel efficiency, without the range anxiety often associated with fully electric vehicles. With the ability to refill at a traditional gas station, the Wagoneer 4xe will provide the best of both worlds: all the power, towing, and cargo capacity of an electric SUV without the hassle of finding an EV charging station and waiting for long recharge times.
The 2026 Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer 4xe models will represent a significant step in the brand’s ongoing efforts to offer performance-oriented, environmentally friendly options for customers seeking the versatility of a full-size SUV with electric benefits.
We are told that Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer 4xe production will begin in Q4 2025 at the Warren Truck Assembly Plant in Michigan.
