Jeep® Sends The Wrangler Rubicon Recon To China:
Special Edition Model Has Hefty Price Tag In China...
Earlier this year, the Jeep® brand is returned its popular Wrangler Rubicon Recon edition to the iconic SUV’s lineup and equipping it with the powerful and efficient 2.0-liter turbocharged inline four-cylinder engine with eTorque mild-hybrid technology. While Jeep recently announced that it would release a limited number of the models to the European market with a diesel engine under the hood, it seems that the legendary American off-road brand is now letting the Rubicon Recon hit the shores of China as well.
According to Jeep China, the special edition model will only be available in a four-door Unlimited configuration. Like the North American model, it will be powered by the 2.0-liter turbocharged inline four-cylinder engine with eTorque mild-hybrid technology. This is due to the Chinese emissions regulations and import taxes based on the vehicle’s displacement. The 2.0-liter produces 195kW (262 horsepower) @ 5,000 rpm and 400 Nm (295 ft.-lbs) of torque @ 3,000 rpm in its Chinese form. It is mated to the same 850RE 8-speed automatic transmission as the North American units as well.
Exterior features for the Chinese version of the Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon Recon include heavy-duty rock-rails, LED headlamps, LED tail lamps, Gloss Black grille with body-color surrounds, Recon fender badge, Matte Black fender vent decal, 17-inch aluminum wheels with a machined/black finish, a Matte Black hood stripe decals with red tracer, European Rubicon front and rear bumpers, as well as Rubicon Gray grille throats and headlamp inserts.
The Chinese-Spec Wrangler Rubicon Recon models feature next-generation Dana front and rear heavy-duty axles, enhanced off-road rock rails, and the Rock-Trac NV241 two-speed transfer case with a 4.0:1 low-range gear ratio. Wrangler Rubicon Recon also includes electric front and rear locking differentials, a disconnecting front sway bar, and 33-inch BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A tires, taking the Wrangler to the highest level of capability.
When it comes to infotainment, the Chinese model is fitted with the same 8.4-inch Uconnect touchscreen infotainment system with navigation that Wrangler owners have come to love. There is also a large 7-inch thin-film-transistor (TFT) screen located in the gauge cluster to let the driver know everything about what is happening with the vehicle when it’s off-road.
While it only is available in one color, the Chinese version ditches the “Sarge” green name beloved by North American fans, in favor of the “Jungle” green name.
The limited-edition Rubicon Recon has a starting Chinese Manufacturer Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) of ¥559,900 (or about $82,453 USD). It is currently available for purchase in Jeep dealers across China.
