Jeep® Renegade 4xe: The New Law Enforcement Vehicles in Italy

Stellantis Fleet & Business, the automotive group that oversees the Jeep brand, has announced a strengthened partnership with the police on the national territory. As part of this partnership, 40 Jeep® Renegade 4xe plug-in hybrid (PHEV) SUVs in Limited trim are now available to the Local Police Corps of Roma Capitale.

This move marks the first time that an SUV with PHEV technology has been integrated into the uniform of the Local Police of Rome. It is no coincidence that the Jeep Renegade 4xe was selected for this partnership. It is the leading model in Italy in its segment and features the Jeep brand’s renowned 4xe PHEV technology. This technology ensures that the Jeep brand is permanently at the top of the national low-emission car market, having set a new record in 2022.

The Jeep Renegade 4xe is equipped with a 1.3-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine and a rear electric motor (e-motor), providing a total power output of 190 horsepower. The electrification of the Renegade enhances its legendary capability, thanks to the high engine torque provided by the e-motor. This technology also enables precise torque management during starting phases and challenging off-road driving, where a very low gear ratio is required. With the new all-wheel drive technology, rear axle traction is not supplied via a drive shaft, but with a dedicated e-motor. This allows for independent torque management and superior performance compared to a mechanical system.

To meet the specific needs of the local police, the Jeep SUVs are equipped with custom accessories. These include a variable message panel that displays real-time information, such as emergency or road traffic alerts. The panel is positioned on the roof bar, along with traditional blue LED flashing lights, and can be operated by a control center installed inside the vehicle. Additionally, the light equipment is complemented by a central LED headlight for depth, placed in the central front of the roof, and a pair of rectangular blue LED repeaters, positioned at the sides of the grille, next to the front light units.

To ensure immediate recognition, an adhesive inscription ‘Polizia Roma Capitale’ is displayed on the top of the windshield. All of these accessories are designed to enhance the vehicle’s visibility and improve the ability of the local police to communicate effectively with citizens during public safety operations.
