If you wanted to buy a Jeep® Wrangler in the country of Brazil, you were limited to a Sahara model in either two-door or four-door (Unlimited) configuration. For the past year, the Jeep brand has been teasing the citizens of Brazil, showing off their most capable Rubicon model at the brand’s Jeep Experience Territory last year. The event traveled to eight Brazilian cities and caused a lot of hype that the brand would finally bring the off-road warrior Rubicon to market.
On Tuesday, Jeep Brazil officially announced that ordering for the 2020 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon had opened. However, the Brazilian market will be limited to certain options on the iconic Wrangler Rubicon model, the biggest being that the Rubicon will only be offered as an Unlimited four-door model.
The Brazilian-spec Wrangler Rubicon will feature the Rock-Trac 4×4 system with heavy-duty next-generation Dana 44 front and rear axles with a “4LO” ratio of 4:1. A 4.10 front and rear axle ratio are standard as are Tru-Lok locking differentials. Wrangler Rubicon models offer an impressive and improved crawl ratio of 77.2:1 equipped with the TorqueFlite 8-speed automatic transmission (which is the only transmission available for the Brazilian market). The only powertrain available is the 2.0-liter DOHC turbo four-cylinder, which produces 270 horsepower and 295 lb.-ft of torque.
Rubicon models feature an electronic front sway-bar disconnect is featured to provide additional wheel travel when the terrain calls for it. This gives the Rubicon a best-in-class approach angle of 43.9 degrees, breakover angle of 22.6 degrees, departure angle of 37 degrees, and a ground clearance of 10.9 inches allows Wrangler to go anywhere.
