Jeep® Launches Renegade Altitude e-HYBRID in Japan
Compact SUV Meets Mild-Hybrid Tech in Global Push

Jeep® is expanding its hybrid lineup with the launch of the Jeep Renegade e-HYBRID in Japan. This marks the first time a mild-hybrid system has been offered in a Jeep model for the Japanese market. Built on the foundation of the popular compact SUV, the new e-HYBRID combines Jeep’s signature design with cutting-edge fuel-saving technology, blending everyday performance with improved efficiency.
A Familiar Face, Now Electrified –

First launched in 2015, the Renegade quickly became Jeep’s most popular small SUV in Japan, standing out with its round headlights, boxy profile, and urban-friendly size. More than 27,000 units have been sold in the country, and the addition of this new hybrid powertrain signals Jeep’s commitment to offering more fuel-conscious options without losing the brand’s rugged identity.
What’s Under the Hood –

The heart of the Renegade e-HYBRID is a turbocharged 1.5-liter inline four-cylinder engine producing 131 PS (129 horsepower) and 240 Nm (177 lb-ft) of torque. It’s paired with a 48-volt mild-hybrid system, featuring a compact electric motor capable of adding 20 PS (19.7 hp) and 55 Nm (40.5 lb-ft) of additional torque.
Mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, this system allows the Renegade to operate at low speeds (up to around 9–12 mph or 15–20 km/h) on pure electric power alone. It can also recapture energy when slowing downvia regenerative braking, storing it in a 48V 0.8 kWh battery for later use. Fuel economy is rated at 17.7 km/L, which translates to approximately 41.6 MPG (US) under Japan’s WLTC test cycle.
Smart Driving Features –

Jeep’s new e-HYBRID system includes several advanced features aimed at making daily driving more efficient:
-
e-Creeping: Allows the vehicle to slowly roll forward without using the accelerator—perfect for stop-and-go traffic.
-
e-Queueing: Makes slow traffic more bearable by relying solely on electric power.
-
e-Parking: Enables quiet, precise parking using only the electric motor.
Thanks to the integrated Belt Starter Generator (BSG) and smart hybrid control system, transitions between gas and electric power are smooth and seamless.
Design Updates & Color Options –

The Jeep Renegade e-HYBRID will be launched in the Altitude trim, blending darkened touches with rugged utility. On the outside, the e-HYBRID model receives several sharp updates that set it apart from the standard Renegade:
-
Gloss black front grille accents
-
Blacked-out door mirrors and door handles
-
Refreshed steering wheel design for a more modern interior look
-
A 10.1-inch Uconnect 5 infotainment system with a high-resolution touchscreen
Jeep is also rolling out a bold new exterior paint color, Solar Yellow, adding a vibrant splash to the color palette. Buyers can also choose from Slate Blue, Graphite Gray, Black, and White, rounding out the five-color lineup.
The Altitude trim complements the Renegade’s city-sized stance with blacked-out detailing and premium tech features, positioning it as a stylish, efficient choice in Japan’s crowded SUV market.
Price & Availability –

The Jeep Renegade e-HYBRID officially goes on sale in Japan on Saturday, July 5, at authorized Jeep dealerships nationwide.
-
Price: ¥5,440,000 (approx. $34,500 USD, tax included)
For a market like Japan where urban driving and fuel economy matter more than off-road brawn, this Renegade could be the right move at just the right time.
With Jeep’s hybrid strategy expanding across the globe, the Renegade e-HYBRID’s debut in Japan sets the stage for more electrified Jeep models in international markets—without losing that adventurous edge that made Jeep what it is today.
