Jeep® Gives Us Some Mild Hints About The Upcoming Grand Wagoneer 4xe!
Appears To Be Battery-Electric Instead Of Plug-In...
While the Jeep® brand focused on three new fully-electrified vehicles during its “4xe Day” presentation, one announcement was overshadowed amidst the excitement. Head of Jeep North America, Jim Morrison, quickly showed us a sneak peek of the upcoming 2024 Jeep Grand Wagoneer 4xe during the event, in which we learned some minor details about the electrified Jeep premium halo vehicle.
Let’s start off by saying, that the 4xe Day presentation only showcased all of the upcoming battery-electric vehicles (BEVs) for the brand scheduled to debut in the 2023/2024 model years. Jeep calls the 4xe Day announcements the “first phase of its product offensive. By the end of 2025, our full lineup will be electrified, including four all-electric vehicles competing in the heart of the marketplace,” Morrison said.
While the Grand Wagoneer Concept, which previewed the 2022 model featured a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) powertrain, Jeep has been silent if it will continue down the PHEV path with the Grand Wagoneer or go to a BEV option.
We do know that the upcoming Ram 1500 BEV and range extended paradigm breaker (REPB), will be sharing the underpinnings with the Grand Wagoneer/Wagoneer including its independent rear suspension (IRS). Our thought is that the Grand Wagoneer 4xe will adapt the same powertrain options, in order to spread the cost of the programs across both vehicles.
If you count the Wagoneer S, Recon, and the next-generation Cherokee (in which the Wagoneer S is rumored to be based), that makes three all-electric vehicles for the North American market, as the Avenger B-UV will be sold outside of North America. That means the Grand Wagoneer 4xe could be the fourth BEV option in the Jeep portfolio.
The numbers that Jeep provided during the presentation, have the Grand Wagoneer 4xe getting an estimated range of 500 miles (800 kilometers) on a single charge. This puts the Grand Wagoneer 4xe right within the numbers Stellantis provided for the STLA Large BEV architecture during the company’s EV Day 2021 presentation.
The Grand Wagoneer 4xe will arrive in 2024 and will be built at the Warren Truck Assembly Plant in Warren, Michigan.
