Iconic Dodge Viper RT/10 Takes a Break from Audubon Chrysler Sign

The Legendary Sports Car Gets a Much-Needed Restoration...

For nearly three decades, drivers traveling along U.S. Highway 41 in Henderson, Kentucky, have been greeted by a sight that has become as much a part of the landscape as the road itself—a red Dodge Viper RT/10 perched atop a towering sign at Audubon Chrysler. After 28 years of exposure to the elements, the iconic first-generation sports car has been taken down for a well-deserved refurbishment.

While most dealerships sold their Dodge Vipers to eager buyers in the mid-1990s, Audubon Chrysler had a different vision for their 1994 RT/10. In 1996, they turned it into a one-of-a-kind marketing symbol, mounting the two-door powerhouse high above their dealership. The move was unconventional but unforgettable, making the Viper an unofficial landmark for Henderson.

The Viper’s eye-catching design and bold presence have drawn countless glances from motorists for decades. Its place as a “Welcome to Kentucky” beacon for travelers crossing the twin bridges is a testament to its enduring appeal.

Time for a Tune-Up –

After spending nearly three decades enduring sun, wind, and rain, the once-glossy red Viper has seen better days. Its paint has faded, dirt has accumulated, and birds have made nests in the engine bay of its massive 8.0-liter (488 cubic-inch) VIPER V10 engine. Despite these challenges, the Viper remains in remarkable condition, especially considering its limited use—it only has 12 miles on the odometer.

Audubon Chrysler recently lowered the car from its perch. Photos and videos shared by Scott Harris on the Viper Club of America on Facebook documented the process, revealing the wear and tear on the legendary sports car. The dealership plans to clean, repaint, and restore the Viper before returning it to its elevated spot.

Audubon Chrysler has confirmed that the Viper will soon return to its sky-high position after restoration. The refurbishment process will restore its iconic red finish and clean out the remnants of its long outdoor stint. Henderson locals and highway travelers alike can look forward to seeing the Dodge Viper once again overlooking the busy U.S. 41.

This legendary car has transcended its role as a dealership decoration to become a piece of regional history. For fans of the Dodge Viper, its story reminds them of the enduring appeal of bold automotive design and creative marketing.
