Hennessey Demon 1700: Turbocharged Insanity

1,700 Horsepower On E85 and Twin-Turbocharged...

Let’s get one thing straight—the 2023 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon 170 was already ridiculous. From the factory, it makes 1,025 horsepower on E85, launches to 60 in 1.66 seconds, and runs the quarter mile in 8.91 seconds. That should’ve been the final word in American muscle.

But then Hennessey got involved—and they don’t play by the rules.

Meet the Hennessey Demon 1700, a completely re-engineered version of Dodge’s ultimate muscle car. This isn’t just a tune or a power bump—it’s a full-blown transformation. Hennessey ditched the supercharger, bumped displacement from 6.2 to 7.2 liters (440 cubic inches), and bolted on a pair of Precision PT6870 turbos. The result? A jaw-dropping 1,700 horsepower and 1,400 lb-ft of torque, making it the most powerful Demon ever created—and quite possibly the wildest street car in the world.

From HELLCAT Roots to Twin-Turbo Terror –

At the core of the Demon 1700 is a built HEMI® V8 designed to take serious boost. Hennessey didn’t just throw turbos on and call it a day. They upgraded everything—from billet engine mounts to a custom fuel system with PTFE-lined braided hoses, high-flow injectors, and a completely reworked induction setup. The transmission? Upgraded. Rear diff? Swapped for a 3.09 ratio unit. Driveshaft? Reinforced. Suspension? Enhanced with billet control arms. It’s a total package.

And it’s not just built for dyno numbers. Every Demon 1700 is tested on Hennessey’s in-house dynos and fine-tuned at the Pennzoil Proving Ground in Sealy, Texas. Drive modes are retained, and drivability is as OEM as you’d want—until you mash the throttle.

New Division Of Hennessey –

In the words of company founder John Hennessey:

“We are happy to announce that we’ve created a new division within the company that allows us to build mega-powerful vehicles in small production runs. Taking my new Dodge Demon 170, removing the blower, adding a pair of turbos, and increasing power from 1,025 to 1,700 horsepower was exactly what we’ve been wanting to do.”

That new division is called Hennessey Special Operations (HSO). It’s a skunkworks-style arm of the company focused on extreme limited-run builds. HSO plans to produce just 15 to 20 vehicles per year across all models—and only 12 of the Demon 1700s will ever be built. That’s it. Just a dozen of these twin-turbo monsters for the entire world.

And if you’re hoping to get your hands on one, be prepared to pay. The conversion alone starts around $200,000—and that doesn’t include the actual Demon 170, which on its own can run upwards of $250,000… assuming you can even find one for sale.

Drag Strip Dominator –

The stock Demon 170 is already the fastest factory quarter-mile car ever sold, but the Hennessey 1700 takes that to another level. While Dodge says 8.91 seconds, Hennessey says this twin-turbo monster can cut the lights in just 7.9 seconds. That’s quicker than the all-electric McMurtry Spéirling, which ran a 7.97. And this one still runs on pump E85 and real tires.

It’s rear-wheel drive, just like the original—and that makes it even more impressive.

Tim Kuniskis Saw It with His Own Eyes –

Yes, Tim Kuniskis, the man behind the modern-day performance renaissance at Stellantis, was reportedly there for a dyno session. Word is, he watched the Demon 1700 do its thing and was flat-out stunned. While he hasn’t confirmed any future plans, the fact that Dodge’s top boss showed up says a lot. Whether or not this monster HEMI makes it into another product—is anyone’s guess, but the interest is clearly there.

Final Thoughts –

The Demon 170 was already legendary—but Hennessey just took it to a whole new level. The Demon 1700 isn’t just fast. It’s next-level brutal. It’s twin-turbo American muscle dialed to the edge of insanity. And with Stellantis execs like Tim Kuniskis paying attention, it might just influence what’s coming next from Dodge or Ram.

Either way, this thing’s not just a car—it’s a statement.
