For Mopar muscle car enthusiasts, real beauty has shown up on the popular automotive website BringATrailer.com. This 1971 Plymouth GTX has undergone significant refurbishment and boasts a 440 cubic-inch Big Block under the hood.
History and Refurbishment –
This GTX was refurbished under previous ownership and purchased by the current seller in 2016 after spending some time in Arizona. The exterior has seen multiple color changes, from its factory Glacial Blue Metallic to a Green color in 2002 and finally repainted in its current Green in 2021. During the seller’s ownership, replacement glass was installed, and the vehicle received various cosmetic and performance upgrades.
Exterior and Features –
The car is finished in a striking green with black vinyl upholstery. It features several eye-catching enhancements, including:
- Black Exterior Stripes
- Body-Color Bumpers
- Front Spoiler
- Black Rear Wing
- Hood Pins
- Body-Color Sport Mirrors
- Twin Chrome Exhaust Finishers with Red Accents
The GTX rides on Rallye 15-inch wheels with chrome trim rings, fitted with BFGoodrich Radial T/A white-letter tires—225/60 in the front and 255/60 in the rear. Notably, this car was factory-equipped with the A33 Track Pak, ensuring top-tier performance.
Interior and Comfort –
Inside, the car features front bucket seats and a rear bench, all trimmed in black vinyl. Additional interior features include:
- Matching Door Panels
- Color-Coordinated Headliner, Dashboard, and Carpets
- Hurst Pistol-Grip Shifter

The three-spoke steering wheel fronts a woodgrain panel that houses a 150-mph speedometer, a 7k-rpm tachometer, and combination gauges. The five-digit odometer reads 19,000 miles, with approximately 1,500 added by the seller. The total mileage remains unknown.
Powertrain and Performance –
Under the hood lies a replacement 7.2-liter (440 cubic-inch) Big Block V8 engine, fitted with triple two-barrel carburetors and an aftermarket camshaft, reportedly rebuilt in 2018. The engine’s power is delivered to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission, which was also overhauled at the same time as the engine. The car retains its original power steering and power-assisted drum brakes.
Availability and Registration –
This 1971 Plymouth GTX is currently offered in Canada with British Columbia registration in the seller’s name. It does not come with a title, which is standard for vehicles registered in British Columbia. The car is now available on BringATrailer.com, offering a unique opportunity for muscle car aficionados to own a piece of automotive history. Bidding ends on Thursday, June 6, at 2:16 p.m. EDT.
