If you’re into classic RVs or vintage Dodge haulers, this 1966 Dodge Travco deserves a look. Currently up for auction on BringATrailer.com, this 27-foot fiberglass-bodied motorhome has undergone a complete restoration and stands as one of the coolest surviving examples of Dodge’s early Class A motorhome lineup.

Originally designed by Ray Frank’s trailer company in Michigan, the Travco was among the pioneers of the modern motorhome. Early versions were known simply as the “Dodge Motor Home,” but by 1963, the model adopted its signature rounded fiberglass body and the Travco nameplate. These rigs stayed in production for nearly two decades, gaining a loyal following among travelers and collectors alike.
This particular 1966 Travco was parked for around twenty years before being rescued in 2006 by the seller’s late father-in-law. A comprehensive refurbishment was carried out over several years and completed in 2016. Martin Custom Autobody of Waltonville, Illinois, repainted the body in an eye-catching two-tone of red and white, while the interior received a total refresh. The result is a period-perfect motorhome that looks as good as it did when it first rolled out of Brown City, Michigan.

Inside, the living quarters feature woodgrain laminate flooring, updated lighting, and reupholstered seats with classic patterned cloth. The kitchenette offers a refrigerator, sink, and a three-burner range, while the wet bath has been reworked with a new toilet and sprayer. The rear bedroom even features automotive-themed drapes — a nod to the Travco’s Dodge roots. Up front, new captain’s chairs trimmed in tan vinyl complement a refreshed dash with a metallic gray finish. The iconic banjo-style steering wheel and vintage gauges complete the retro look.
Power comes from a rebuilt 5.9-liter (360 cubic-inch) LA V8 engine, paired with a three-speed automatic transmission, which sends power to the rear wheels. The rig rides on a heavy-duty Class A chassis with leaf springs, dual rear wheels, and drum brakes on all corners — a setup built to handle serious road trips.

After its restoration, the Travco gained attention from enthusiasts and was even featured in MotorHome magazine back in April 2018. Now, nearly a decade later, it’s looking for a new home and some new adventures.
Bidding on this restored 1966 Dodge Travco ends Sunday, October 12, at 1:45 p.m. EDT on BringATrailer.
