FR Conversions Recalls 150 Ram ProMaster Vans For Seat Issue
Supplier To Conversion Company Recalled Seats For Recline Problem...
FR Conversions is recalling approximately 150 units of 2023 to 2024 Ram ProMaster vehicles, sold equipped with certain GO-ES Space Saver Foldaway Seats by the Freedman Seating Co. The recliner mechanism may not engage when the seat back is fully reclined. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 210, “Seat Belt Assembly Anchorages.”
The recall follows another we talked about earlier, revolving around the specific 2023 to 2024 Chrysler Voyager Entervan models sold by BraunAbility.
When force is applied to the shoulder belt, the seat back could be released, increasing the risk of injury during a crash.
Recall Chronology –
- Recall 24E-026 was based on an FMVSS 207/210 test in Freedman Seating Co. (the supplier of the place 2place GO-ES Spacer Saver Foldaway Seat) test lab on January 26, 2024; the seat was unable to sustain the test load on the shoulder belts. If the seat back recliner mechanism is not fully engaged, the seat back could be released when a substantial load is applied to the shoulder belt, potentially increasing the risk of injury to the seat occupant during a vehicle crash.
- Freedman Seating Co. said in its official statement to the NHTSA that “the welder who took over this process was not effectively trained in the use of the welding fixtures and neglected to use the additional fixture that was needed to accurately locate the recliner mechanism relative to the seat back stop.”
Dealers will inspect and repair the seats as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed on June 3, 2024. Owners may contact FR Conversions customer service at 1-844-372-8267.
Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or visit www.nhtsa.gov.
