Jeep® Showed Its Off-Road Prowess At International Off-Road Fair (FIF)

29,000 Italian Off-Road Fans Get To Experience The Jeep Brand...

At this year’s International Off-Road Fair (FIF), Jeep® stole the spotlight, showcasing its dominance from America to Italy. With an impressive turnout of over 29,000 motorsport enthusiasts and off-road fans, the event marked its third successful year, running from October 13th to the 15th.

Viareggio, Italy, was completely transformed into an off-road haven, with a standout Jeep® experience area set against the picturesque waterfront. This scenic backdrop added an extra layer of allure to the event.

One of the notable vehicles on display was the midsized Gladiator (JT) pickup. Regrettably, after this year, the Gladiator will no longer be available in Europe. However, while there’s excitement brewing for the upcoming Gladiator 4xe slated for 2025, it will not be headed to Europe. While the American-made Gladiator has garnered immense popularity in the region, it fell short of projected sales.

Despite the Gladiator’s farewell, Jeep remains committed to providing a range of electrified options for the European market. This includes the subcompact Jeep Avenger (JJ), marking the brand’s inaugural full battery-electric vehicle (BEV). Attendees had the chance to experience the European 2023 “Car of the Year” firsthand. While currently only offered in front-wheel drive (FWD), Stellantis has hinted at an upcoming all-wheel drive (AWD) version. Equipped with a 400-volt electric motor, the Avenger boasts an urban range of 550 km (342 miles) and an impressive 30 km (18.6 miles) of charging in just 3 minutes with a fast charger.

In a nod to the popular Camp Jeep® events in America, the FIF gathering featured a 1200 m² (12,917 sq ft) area equipped with Wallbox chargers tailored for the 4xe models. Additionally, a towering 9-meter (29.5 feet) deck with a 45° slope added an exhilarating dimension to the event.

The complete 4xe range was also on full display, showcasing Jeep’s plug-in hybrid (PHEV) prowess. Notably, the top-selling Compass 4xe and Renegade 4xe were crowd favorites, alongside the American-made Grand Cherokee 4xe and the iconic Wrangler 4xe, which stands as the brand’s flagship vehicle.

Jeep’s reign in the off-road sector isn’t confined to the U.S., but resonates globally. The Italian market has embraced Jeep’s 4xe technology, solidifying its dominance in the PHEV segment with an impressive 18% market share. The Compass 4xe continues to lead the PHEV category, earning its place as Italy’s best-selling PHEV.

It’s essential to Jeep to sustain, both in perception and reality it’s off road capability and the uniqueness of that capability to the brand to sustain and expand the brand. Wrangler, in face of completion from others, especially the formidable Bronco, must stand above as the standard off road trail rated dominator. This Wrangler must do regardless of cost, no choice or compromise.
The other side of the coin are Jeep models like Compass and pictured here, the Avenger, that all must demonstrate a level of off road credentials to retain that essential and very marketable Jeep capability. Again no choice or compromise.
Jeep can’t be everything for everyone, but it certainly must be a Jeep and that is more than a brand but a lifestyle. “Only in a Jeep” is not just a slogan, but words to live by. No choice, no compromise.
