EXCLUSIVE: Technology In The 2024 Dodge Charger Daytona Scat Pack
Dodge's First EV Performance Car Will Be Very Configurable...
I recently had the chance to spend one-on-one time with a pre-production 2024 Dodge Charger Daytona Scat Pack. As this was a pre-production model, it displayed some error lights on the dash since the car is still undergoing final validation testing, which you may have noticed in the video above.
The Vehicle In Question –
The Charger Daytona I had the opportunity to explore was a 2024 Scat Pack equipped with the Scat Pack Stage 2 kit, which adds 80 additional horsepower to the Scat Pack’s initial rating of 590 horsepower. All 2024 models will come standard with the Stage 2 upgrade; however, for 2025, this option will cost $3,200.
This particular car also featured the Plus Group package ($4,995), which includes leather high-back bucket seats with ventilation, exterior mirror lamps with the logo, memory functions for the exterior mirrors, bi-function LED premium reflector headlamps, automatic high beams, illuminated door handles, windshield wiper de-icer, a frunk, a map-in-cluster display, rain-sensitive wipers, 4-way power lumbar adjustment for the driver and front passenger seats, heated second-row seats, a power hatch, 12-way power adjustable driver and front passenger seats, ventilation for the front seats, ambient colored lighting, LED footwell lighting, and a unique keycard.
The Charger Daytona offers three unique ways to operate the vehicle. First, the standard key fob is visible below the window sticker in the image above. This fob is the same as the one used for the Grand Wagoneer/Wagoneer/Grand Cherokee but features a distinctive carbon fiber finish on the back. The second option is using your smartphone through the Dodge app, which allows remote monitoring of charge levels, setting charging schedules and locating charging stations. Lastly, the new keycard utilizes NFC technology, enabling you to operate the car just like a standard key fob by simply placing it in your wallet or purse. These new options work very similarly to Tesla’s technology on its vehicles.
The car was also equipped with the Sun and Sound Package ($2,495), which features a full-glass roof and an 18-speaker Alpine PRO audio system with a subwoofer. Additionally, it included the Carbon & Suede Package ($2,995), which adds leather and suede high-back performance seats, door panels with carbon-fiber inserts, an instrument panel with carbon fiber and suede, a suede headliner and A-pillars, carbon-fiber exterior mirrors, dark exterior badging, and 20-inch x 11-inch dark wheels.
Lastly, all 2024 models come standard with the Track Pack ($4,495), which includes the Widebody Competition Suspension, adaptive damping suspension, red Brembo® ultra-high-performance brakes, a black performance spoiler, 305/35ZR20 front tires, 325/35ZR20 rear tires, a drive experience recorder, and radio and driver seat memory features.
Ultimately, this car’s window sticker showed a U.S. MSRP of $83,175. Since this is a pre-production model, the Monroney label did not list a destination charge.
Drive Modes –
The 2024 Dodge Charger Daytona Scat Pack will feature six drive modes: Auto, Drag, Track, Sport, Wet/Snow, and Custom. As an all-wheel-drive (AWD) vehicle, it offers enhanced traction and stability. Under the Race options, you can select race prep to precondition the battery for optimal performance or activate features such as line lock, launch control, drift mode, or donut mode. In donut mode, the front electric motor is deactivated, allowing the Charger Daytona to operate as a rear-wheel-drive (RWD) vehicle by powering only the rear wheels.
Performance Pages –
Initial Impressions –
While I have been critical of Uconnect 5 in the past, particularly with our previous 2022 Ram 1500 Limited long-term vehicle, my initial impressions of the Uconnect system in the 2024 Dodge Charger Daytona are very positive. The system responded quickly to inputs, and the screen was crisp, clear, and colorful. Anyone familiar with the previous drive mode and performance page setup will feel right at home in the new car.
In person, the car is quite good-looking, boasting a wide, sleek stance. The interior represents a significant improvement over the previous Charger and Challenger models in terms of material quality, design, and build quality. While I’m not fully convinced by the electric powertrain just yet, I’m eager to spend some time behind the wheel to see if it can win me over.
The upcoming Hurricane6 variants, particularly the 550-horsepower high-output (H/O) models, show enormous potential. That said, you’ll have to pry my 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT HELLCAT from my cold, dead hands. The raw emotion and character of a rumbling, screaming V8 is something that neither the electric Charger Daytona nor the twin-turbocharged Hurricane I6-powered Charger will ever be able to replicate.
