A Deep Dive Into Dodge's Electrified Compact CUV's Third Year...

Dodge has announced that the Hornet R/T will make a return for the 2025 model year, marking the brand’s first foray into electrified vehicles (EVs). As a compact utility vehicle (CUV), the Hornet R/T introduces advanced plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) technology to Dodge’s lineup. Despite its Italian origins and the fact that it has struggled with slow sales, the 2025 Hornet R/T comes with a few minimal updates. Let’s take a closer look at what’s new for the 2025 Hornet R/T.

Performance and Powertrain –

The Hornet R/T is powered by a turbocharged all-aluminum 1.3-liter inline-four-cylinder engine, part of Stellantis’ Global Small Engine (GSE) family. This engine, featuring third-generation MultiAir technology, delivers 288 horsepower and 383 lb.-ft. of torque. Complementing the gasoline engine is a 90-kW electric motor that powers the rear axle. Together, they offer a total power output that positions the Hornet R/T as the most powerful utility vehicle in its segment.

The hybrid system includes a 15.5-kWh lithium-ion battery pack with a refrigerant gas cooling circuit, allowing for a 32-mile all-electric range. The R/T model delivers 77 MPGe and a total range of 360 miles. The powertrain is paired with a 6-speed Aisin F21-250 PHEV automatic transmission and an all-wheel-drive (AWD) system that optimizes power distribution between the front and rear axles.

Performance Features –

The Hornet R/T features a class-exclusive, on-demand PowerShot function that provides a temporary boost of 30 horsepower, enabling the vehicle to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in just 5.6 seconds. This burst of power can be activated by pulling both steering-wheel-mounted paddle shifters and performing a pedal kickdown, with a 15-second cool-down period before it can be used again.

Additional eDrive Modes for the Hornet R/T include Hybrid, Electric, and E-Save, each tailored to different driving needs. The Sport Mode enhances throttle response, shift schedules, and overall driving dynamics, while regenerative braking helps recharge the battery by recovering kinetic energy.

Exterior and Interior Design –
