CAUGHT: 2022 Jeep® Grand Cherokee (WL) Interior:

Jeep® has been hard at work on its next-generation Grand Cherokee (WL), which is scheduled to debut this fall. The Grand Cherokee is the most awarded SUV nameplate ever and is the vehicle that has long defined what a premium SUV should be. It is also one of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles’ (FCA) best-selling vehicles, so it is easy to say there is a lot of pressure on the Jeep team to continue to the success of the current Grand Cherokee. 

The Jeep team now has been caught in Arizona, doing some hot weather testing of its new three-row variant of the upcoming Grand Cherokee (codenamed WL75). It will mark the first time that the Grand Cherokee has offered a third-row option and will be the model to launch the new Grand Cherokee when it starts production at the new Mack Avenue Assembly Plant in Detroit, Michigan.

While there isn’t a lot new to see on the outside as the Grand Cherokee continues to wear its heavy vinyl camouflage, we are getting our first real look at the Grand Cherokee’s interior.

As we discussed before, the new Grand Cherokee will be getting a healthy dose of new technology. Starting with the infotainment system, the new Grand Cherokee will feature the new 10.1-inch Uconnect 5 touchscreen with navigation that made its debut on the 2021 Chrysler Pacifica.  Our sources have also told us that the 7-inch Uconnect and 8.4-inch Uconnect touchscreens will also be available lower trim levels, however, we are not sure if they will operate with an updated Uconnect 5 operating system or carryover with the Uconnect 4C units.

The new shot also shows us the Grand Cherokee’s all-new digital dash cluster, which will be made of a 10.1-inch high-definition thin-film transistor (TFT) cluster display, which will display crisp high-res graphics. Another new technology gadget to be added to Grand Cherokee is the new Uconnect-based heads-up display for the driver. The system will make its debut on the 2021 Ram 1500 this fall.

The interior takes on a much modern look. Instead of the vents surround the Uconnect system, the vents are narrower and higher up on the dash. This gives a more horizontal look and wider interior feel of the cabin, as shown in the leaked interior photo (shown above). A new rotary dial shifter opens up more room for the bigger and more advanced terrain select knob. A panoramic sunroof will return to open up the cabin on both the two-row and three-row models.

The all-new Jeep steering wheel design was seen a few weeks ago on a prototype 2022 Jeep Compass in India. The new design looks more compact, will feature audio controls on the back of it, along with paddle shifters, and thick leather-wrapped design is one of the surfaces to get a more upscale design over the current model. We can also see wood trim sharply curves around the lower part of the dash, which gives us the idea that this is the upper-level Overland trim.
