Digital Artist Designs Next-Gen Grand Cherokee With Edgier Look

Making The Classic Jeep® Boxy Design Language Look More Modern...

In the ever-evolving landscape of automotive design, the balance between honoring tradition and embracing the future is a delicate art. One brand that has continually navigated this terrain is Jeep®, an emblem of rugged capability and iconic boxy design.

Jeep has long been synonymous with its timeless boxy SUVs, with models like the Wrangler (JL) and Gladiator (JT) carrying the torch of this iconic design language. However, as the automotive landscape evolves, so does Jeep’s approach to design. The upcoming all-electric Recon (EJ) model signals a return to the brand’s traditional boxy aesthetic while sharing the platform with the more rounded Grand Cherokee (WL).

Enter the visionary realm of digital artists who, inspired by the brand’s heritage and contemporary trends, have envisioned a Grand Cherokee that marries the boxy nostalgia of classic Jeeps with cutting-edge futuristic elements. Drawing inspiration from the revered full-size Cherokee (SJ), incorporating cues reminiscent of the Rivian R1S, which former Jeep design studio alumni designed, and the current Grand Wagoneer (WS), this new interpretation of the Grand Cherokee is a striking fusion of classic and modern.

The design showcased by the Q Cars YouTube channel presents a Jeep four-door SUV that captivates with its bold, edgy features. It challenges the notion that contemporary designs are confined to streamlined silhouettes. This envisioned Grand Cherokee evokes the rugged spirit the Jeep is renowned for while pushing the envelope of what a modern vehicle can embody.

While the front image has more proportions to the Rivian R1S, we can see that the rear glass takes a cue from the current Grand Wagoneer. However, in the rear images, that current Grand Wagoneer character trait is gone in favor of a more modern take on the classic SJ Jeeps—something we love to see in the overall design.

At a time when automotive designs tend to converge toward uniformity due to computer-aided efficiency, this audacious reinterpretation of the Grand Cherokee stands out. It’s a testament to Jeep’s commitment to preserving its heritage while embracing innovation. While rounded and sculpted vehicles often exude luxury, the squared design language of the new Grand Cherokee speaks volumes about its inherent off-road prowess, a hallmark of the Jeep legacy.

This futuristic rendition represents more than just an aesthetic overhaul; it symbolizes a philosophy—a dedication to pushing boundaries and challenging conventions. It’s a statement that there’s room for honoring the past while embracing the future in a world of evolving design norms.

That's what the new Cherokee should be and build it on a shorten Grand Cherokee platform no more fwd.

I’ve discussed my eight year ownership of two Cherokees and how much I enjoy these Jeeps often. However I admit that it’s time for an update to address the few flaws with the current Cherokee. I’d agree a more capable Cherokee, rear wheel drive, sharing the Wagoneer S new STLA large platform would be starters. If this happens the two other short comings (pun full intended) would be a wider and longer offering, keeping that six cylinder option with a new Hurricane engine. I’d like a bit more upscale on the interior and I would be in a new Cherokee faster than you could say “trail rated” ! Oh, and yes I know this is a Grand Cherokee posting, but I believe a new Cherokee will launch well before the Grand and I still have the Cherokee at the top of my list.

I actually wouldn't be surprised if something this squared off is the KM, considering that it was said Jeeps would remain "boxy". Since the KX will be the more road oriented luxury model of the two, it would make sense to further differentiate them by making sure the KM model was more utilitarian as opposed to the coupe like rear of the Wagoneer S (KX).

These interpretations are not pleasing.
They are the wrong direction.

The REAL designers better be thinking along the lines of the WK2 for the next iteration instead of this boxy squared off stuff.
If they would just upsize the Jeep Avenger, that would be a good starting point.

NO and NO the WK2 bloated and tired looking and no wonder it was made forever. Continue the current SJ modern take theme.
