The 500e, the first fully-electric car from the FIAT brand, has picked up yet another award by winning the “Best Electric City Car” title at the inaugural 2022 EcoCar Electrified Top-50 Awards, in Diesel&EcoCar Magazine.
For 2022, Diesel&EcoCar Magazine has announced the very first EcoCar Electrified Top-50 Awards, celebrating the most capable new hybrids, plug-in hybrids (PHEVs), hydrogen fuel-cell, and battery-electric vehicles (BEVs) currently on sale. Over the past 12 months, a team of well-respected writers tested more than 200 new cars, assessing them in everyday conditions and scrutinizing them with the target customer in mind.
Judges were most impressed by the 500e’s stylish interior, generous battery options, and attractive price point. The 500e’s punchy performance and tight turning circle were also credited when announcing FIAT’s first, battery-electric vehicle (BEV) as the “Best Electric City Car”.
Ian Robertson, Editor at Diesel&EcoCar Magazine, commented, “the new 500e is already climbing sales charts, and we wouldn’t be surprised if this affordable EV quickly becomes one of Europe’s most popular electric cars.”
“Despite its tiny size, it packs an impressive 42 kWh battery in all but the entry trim which has a 24 kWh item, giving it a range of approaching 200 miles (118 miles on the Action). With a starting price of just over £22,000 (or about $26,529 USD), it’s also one of the cheapest EVs to buy or lease,“ Robertson said.
“It excels in towns and cities, with punchy acceleration and a tight turning circle making it ideal for nipping in and out of traffic,” committed Robertson. It also looks cool inside and out, with a vastly improved interior and smart 10.25-inch infotainment setup.”
“It is always a huge pleasure to receive further recognition from industry experts, which pays homage to the phenomenal work of our engineers and designers that have made the 500e as impressionable as it is,” said Greg Taylor, FIAT and Abarth UK Managing Director.
