For those who appreciate custom builds, this 1969 International Harvester Travelall 1100D offers a one-of-a-kind blend of vintage style and modern performance. Originally a 1969 International Harvester, this classic SUV was reimagined in 2018 and 2019 by fitting its body over the powertrain and underpinnings of a 2005 Dodge Durango 4×4. The result is a vehicle that combines the timeless charm of the Travelall with the robust power and handling capabilities of a modern HEMI®-powered SUV.
Exterior Features –
Finished in white with tasteful woodgrain accents, this custom Travelall maintains the vintage look with classic round headlights and a drop-down tailgate featuring a roll-down window. The body is adorned with chrome bumpers and dual side mirrors with the International Harvester brand. A roof rack adds to its rugged appeal, ready for adventure, while minor cosmetic imperfections are visible in the detailed photo and video galleries available.
The 16-inch white-painted steel wheels are equipped with polished hubcaps and Falken Wildpeak A/T AT3W tires (265/75), both of which were replaced during the build. The suspension is lifted directly from the Durango, with an independent front end, torsion bars, and rack-and-pinion steering. The rear features a live axle with coil springs and a Watt’s link for stability.
Interior Features –
The cabin of this Travelall mixes comfort with utility, with green vinyl bench seats featuring beige cloth inserts. A fold-down center armrest provides additional convenience for front-seat occupants. Air conditioning, front and rear lap belts, and a Pioneer head unit for entertainment further enhance the interior. The headliner was replaced during the restoration, maintaining a fresh, clean interior look.
The dashboard houses a 120-mph horizontal-sweep speedometer, an ammeter, and gauges for coolant temperature, oil pressure, and fuel level. The vehicle’s five-digit odometer shows 1,300 miles, with around 3,000 miles driven under the current owner’s care. Since the true mileage is unknown, potential buyers should keep this in mind.
Performance and Powertrain –
At the heart of this build is a 5.7-liter (345 cubic-inch) HEMI® V8, a modern powerhouse capable of producing 335 horsepower and 370 lb-ft of torque. The engine, along with the five-speed automatic transmission and dual-range transfer case, was remanufactured by Jasper Engines & Transmissions before being installed on the Travelall’s frame. Power is routed to all four wheels, ensuring that this custom SUV is as capable off-road as it is on.
An Optima battery and aluminum radiator with dual cooling fans help maintain the engine’s performance, keeping it cool even in the most challenging conditions. The 545RFE five-speed automatic transmission is paired with an NV244HD dual-range transfer case; both are controlled via the factory Travelall levers inside the cabin.
Build and Restoration Details –
The current owner, who purchased the vehicle in 2014, commissioned Manns Restoration in Festus, Missouri, to perform the build. The build process cost approximately $80,000 and was completed in 2019, bringing this unique creation to life. Detailed records from Manns Restoration and photos documenting the build process will accompany the vehicle, offering insight into the work and craftsmanship involved.
A Carfax report for the donor 2005 Dodge Durango Limited 4×4 notes two accidents in 2005 and 2013, which were fully disclosed and have been factored into the vehicle’s overall condition and valuation.
