The future of the Brampton Assembly Plant (BAP) in Ontario continues to hang in the balance after a key follow-up meeting between Stellantis and Unifor on May 2, 2025. Despite expectations for clear answers, the automaker informed the union that the retooling pause remains in effect, offering no new timeline and pushing the next update to June. The information comes from a statement from Unifor issued on May 8th, obtained by MoparInsiders.

It’s time to start moving the bulk of the manufacturing future and identical building equipment to a new facility and leave it to a Canadian Union team and Stellantis representatives to hammer out a reimagined use for Brampton. In the interim a favorable tariff agreement is put in place to allow current vehicles to be built in Canada until the U.S. site opens. I see no alternative. It’s up to the union to phase in a downsized workforce and relocations for displaced workers. It’s business, not personal but that is stark reality.

Once again this all goes back to one guy causing all of this disruption. It is time for Congress to grow a big set and put an end to this tariff idiocy.
The tariffs started over 60 years ago with the Europeans and then Canada stepped in. Those tariffs were against the US. Enjoy the net zero energy economy that's coming your way.

There is no easy solutions to the powertrain limitation of what is supposed to be a Jeep in the Mid Architecture. When they picked PSA over SUSW. For it to sell in NA in needs a ICE to E-axle Hybrid or a REV Hybrid.

Yes, I find it odd that USA is the only country that is supposed to trade at a disadvantage. I am anti-tax in general, preferring real limitation instead of Tax consumers as a balancing tool. But thing this USA biggest export is energy and ag products. So your directly raising he cost of living on your citizens.

Say what you want, but it needed to be done. I am a pro-build here in the U.S. person. However, how was it fair when most European countries had a 10% + tariff on U.S. vehicles, while we only charged a 2.5% tariff? Time to make the playing field fair in my opinion. The worst thing that could happen is plants will have to become multi-flex and run multiple vehicles for a country. Back in the day, Chrysler used to run multiple plants for a vehicle, and today they can't even run a facility at capacity. Would love to see Brampton, Warren, and Belvidere at capacity.

You can live without BMW, but not without food and energy. Agree USA simp relationship with the world needed end, prefer is wasn't on the back of consumers. Most of the world is too easy to tax every breath literally.

Nonsense, Canada had no auto tariffs on any vehicles from the US. At least not until the current US administration came to power.Have you not heard of NAFTA, or it's replacement that some fool negotiated according to that same fool?

And then tariffs will stay on American cars coming into Canada just like any other automaker that exports to Canada. Enjoy the poorer build quality and higher prices brought to you by the UAW.
