UAW Local Questions If Ram Midsize Pickup Will Come To Belvidere

The future of Stellantis’ Belvidere Assembly Plant remains clouded in uncertainty, with UAW Local 1268 leadership now questioning whether the long-rumored Ram midsize pickup will actually be built there.

Building the Gladiator and a BOF mid-size Ram on the same production line makes too much sense.

I would like to see STLA-small and Smart platform vehicles built in North America. I'm thinking about another Belvidere Trio, but only in terms of dimensions. A Jeep Renegade replacement, a Dodge 5-door hatchback, and something for Chrysler. The Compass has grown to the medium platform, while the Cherokee is now on the large. If Fiat is to stay in our market, the Grande Panda should be built here as well. Maybe there is also room for a rebadged version of the upcoming Fiat global pickup truck for either Jeep or Ram.

Stellantis should build the 1.2 L three cylinder engine here with all the upgrades the 1.6 four cylinder received. Auburn Hills should be granted the autonomy to build the smaller vehicles along with the engines they will use, without interference from Europe. The small cars must be durable and affordable.

My thinking for Belvedere.
Ram Dakota midsize to Toledo. Spinoff of Jeep Gladiator platform.
Next generation Jeep Compass and next generation Dodge Hornet and the Ram Renegade Compact PU to Belvedere.
Importantly, all U.S. built products. Compass replacement now in hibernation moves from Canada, Hornet replacement moves from Italy with all new platform off Compass and Ram Renegade nameplate from Brazil is also all new platform off Compass. Dodge could get a sedan as maybe Chrysler does too in a year or two all off the STLA mid-size platform now the centerpiece of the new Belvedere.
Absolutely the logical move for Stellantis.

Oh I forgot, the rumored Jeep Comanche pickup will also be built here, if more than a rumor. Belvedere could become “ Belvedere City” with expansion and up to six vehicles built there. UAW will love it too.
