Renaulution: New strategic 5 year plan by Renault

If you never get tired of 5 year plans: Here's Renault's latest! Might have some effects on Stellantis, or not.

‘Renaulution’: Groupe Renault’s recently unveiled strategy is an ambitious transformative program, moving away from volumes and on to value.
A plan structured in 3 phases that are launched in parallel, which will restore competitiveness by:

• Improving the efficiency of functional divisions thanks to strict cost control
• Taking advantage of Groupe Renault’s industrial strengths and position as leader in electrics throughout Europe
• Drawing on the Alliance’s technological expertise to boost efficiency
• Exploring even further into the world of data, mobility and energy services
• Driving profitability through 4 differentiated empowered brand business units, customers and markets oriented

They are trying to push people away from a B segment cars and lower trim levels.

Yes. Problem is: they didn't have real success in D segment for many years. How many different cars can one brand sell in C segment?

Then there's the problem with Dacia. It needs to fullfill the emission goals, so they have to implement electrification. Not easy for such a budget brand with cars mostly in B segment. Will people still buy it with higher prices? Can they make it more cool without hurting Renault? I think the brands need much more differentiation for that. Right now they flip badges here and there.

They lack a premium brand. Can they get Alpine to produce higher margins?

I'm disappointed by the R5 prototype. Why so messy at the front? Hope the production car gets cleaner lines. Nice to see a Twizy successor with doors!

In the current generation Renault didn't have success with Kadjar and Scenic. They are trying to change it. I presume they'll morph into a 2nd model. It's all about migration from B to C.

D segment? I'm sure that Renault doesn't put much into it. Not as we know it. Even if they try it it still based on the same platform as their C segment.
AFAIK Espace is already dead.
Actually from classic ICE or hybrid cars only revamped Koleos may live. And maybe they'll change the name.

All other should be on CMP-EV platform. Is it CMP-EV or CMP-E? Or something else maybe?

Dacia and Lada? I'm pretty much sure that we will see electrification. And new Sandero isn't cheap. What can be cheap is their C or D- offering. Like a new 4.6 meter 3 row SUV.
All is based, all 11 of combined body styles, on a single CMF-B platform. Sure it's a low cost for C and upper segments. Lower in comparison to CMF-C/D.
Right now Lada and Dacia have 4 or 5 different platforms. Add old Captur and Clio to the mix and it would be one platform more. Captur and Clio are and will share platform with the 11 different Ladas and Dacias. That's 13 in total. 13 without Alpine or some additional Renault branded cars. All by the end of 2025.

CMF-B should be BEV capable platform in the near future. So here they are taking something out of FCA's or PSA's book. BEV but not on a dedicated BEV platform.

And they've calculated fall from 4 to 3.1 million of sales at the end of 2025. That's part of the plan.

Much of the plan is about shrinking production and capacity. To move customers into higher segments and price points is the harder part. I don't really get the differentiation between the three platforms (architectures? ):

• CMF-B/EV for small and budget cars combining ICE and BEV?
• CMF-CD for C/D cars with ICE?
• CMF-EV for BEV only?

Pushing customers to a bigger segments is something which PSA had succeeded and which in u-turbo brought them elevated margins in combination with simple and cheap mechanics. Higher trim levels are also part of it. The final goal is to have larger margins and larger proportion of sales through retail chain, i.e. private customers. As you can see this part is somewhat or entirely different to what German car makers are doing with lease-craze.

In a similar fashion FCA will try to push their customers from A to B segment. From Panda and Ypsilon to 3 small B segment SUVs. There lays part of the reason why they've chosen e-Mini platform for this project and not Small Wide. Exterior size and cost structure.

One important part of the presentation. Dacia Sandero and Duster are market leaders when it comes to retail channel. Another reason why Dacia may sustainable.

Important part. Renault has proprietary hybrid technology. At the heart of it is a 4 speed transmission with 2 built-in electric motors. IMO; it's a revolutionary solution. Much better than Toyota's EVT which gives CVT-like feeling. It's a heart of both HEV and PHEV Renault solutions.
Margin of Renault hybrid cars is already higher in comparison to ICE only cars.

As I've said. Renault would be a better partner for FCA than PSA is. Unfortunately French Government had messed up.
