Lots in the works according to the 5 year plan

The 104 year old Maserati brand will have a completely fresh model lineup by the 2022 car year. According to the FCA 5 year plan, presented on Friday June 1st there is a lot on the works for the Maserati Future.

First up is the launch of what is being referred to is Maserati Blue, available up the upcoming Maserati Alfieri, redesigned Quatroporte and Levante. Maserati Blue models will be fully electric and offer state of the art battery technology. Maserati is touting long range and quick charge times while being light weight and taking up minimal space. Performance wise it will be a 3 motor all wheel drive system with torque vectoring and offering up over 50% more power than current Maserati powertrains.

A completely new model lineup

By 2022 the whole Maserati lineup will be all new. A new D segment SUV is coming for the brand, The Levante will be completely redesigned and the Ghibli will receive what we expect to be a thorough refresh. Quattroporte will also receive a complete redesign will the new Alfieri and Alfieri Cabrio will replace the Gran Turismo coupe and cabrio. All models will be available as a plug in Hybrid while Alfieri, Quattroporte and Levante will also be available as fully electric vehicles. The current Levante is getting a 590hp Trofeo version that our friends at Real Fast Fotography caught testing to help keep the Levante fresh until the new model arrives.

Level 3 autonomy is also coming to all Maserati models by 2022. a level 3 autonomous vehicle is able to steer, change lanes and accelerate and brake all by itself. The driver does not need to have their hands on the steering wheel as they do in a level 2 autonomous vehicle but does need to be able to take control of the vehicle when/if needed.

Alfieri will be replacing the Gran Turismo and will be available as a plug in hybrid with an electronic all wheel drive system or in a “Maserati blue” fully electric model with all wheel drive, a 0-60 time of around 2 seconds and a top speed of 300+ KM/H. All Alfieri models will be build on a modular spaceframe and feature active aerodynamics.

A new mid sized utility vehicle is also on the way to slot in under the Levante. This will gain Maserati entry into the popular mid sized SUV class. The below teaser image was part of the presentation and if it is accurate of the styling direction of the new vehicle we expect it to have a sloping hatchback look akin to the BMW X6. This is an important market segment as worldwide sales of utility vehicles is projected to be up 22% in 2022 compared to 2010, while cars are only expected to be up 5%.

Brand strength

Maserati has been growing sales steadily since 2012. Aside from a sales dip of 1k units between 2014 and 2015 sales have been rising year over year. Sales in 2017 were up by over 700% compared to 2011 and 2012. This is due in part to growing market coverage from 14% in 2012 to 46% by 2017 thanks to the introduction of the Ghibli in 2014 and the Levante for the 2017 model year.

Maserati expects to have 588 retailers worldwide by 2022, compared to 364 in 2014 which is a gain of 62%. By region Maserati sales since 2011 are up 650% in the NAFTA market, 450% in the EU market, over 1000% in China, going from 1k sales a year in 2011 to 14k in 2017 and up 550% in the rest of the world. Maserati is also in the enviable position of having clients that are 5-10 years younger and earn roughly twice as much as the segment average.

It seems that a Alfieri's platform is a very similar to a Ferrari Portofino.

Alfieri will have both BEV and PHEV versions.

That chassis should be very similar to the next Viper (GT) replacement.

I will be honest on this one.

I will have a doubts about Viper successor. Platform is a obviously Ferrari derived. Alfa didn't make the cut. Instead they will get a carbon fiber supercar and a classic sports coupe on a Giorgio platform called GTV.

And you really think that Dodge will receive a Ferrari bones?
