anyone else thinking FCA now wishes they had called this anything but a Cherokee, what with a grander Grand Cherokee in the mix?

Hmh... Good question. But Grand Cherokee is a 2 row E segment SUV. And it's been like that since its beginnings.

The Cherokee name probably contributed to the initial sales volume. I think the next generation needs a slightly more traditional appearance though.

I wouldn't like the Grand Cherokee name being reserved for only a 3-row model.

Actually the best year came with launch of MCA model. That means that it lacked capacity before it or that MCA was so much better or both.

9 speed issues before the launch of than all new Cherokee didn't help. Today it's facing with different obstacles. Most of competitors are newer models. Cherokee is long in the tooth.

I have no doubt that the new model will be much better.

RWD + greater cargo capacity + better transmission + new tech to keep it up to date

Mine has been an absolute workhorse the past couple of weeks while I moved and got married, but that sloped rear design bit me a couple of times! I had to borrow my parents Caravan to move my TV, etc

It is in desperate need of a cleaning now
