HEMI® Is Back—And It’s Cheaper Than Before On The Ram 1500

Ram’s 5.7L HEMI® V8 Returns In 2026 With A Lower Price and More Bark

Ever since Ram announced the return of the 5.7-liter HEMI® V8 for the 2026 Ram 1500 lineup, we’ve been seeing a lot of people online claiming it’s “too expensive” of an option. Scroll through any truck forum, comment section, or social media post and you’ll find folks saying the $1,200 upcharge over the HURRICANE S/O I6 engine just isn’t worth it. But here’s the thing—most people aren’t looking at the full picture.

Is the cat back really loud and is there a way for a normal sounding exhaust. I would think after a while all that noise would wear on you. I like the sound of my '16 Ram Hemi.

So where are the hybrid transmissions? We should have been seeing those by now. If the Hemi and Pentastar are 48V capable then we should see a 48V hybrid transmission option for those engines.
What even is thst lol, who cares

I am glad to see the hemi return to the lineup and I am glad the hurricane also has a niche in here as well but it is a legitimate question to ask about the hybrid driveline, especially with cross town rival Ford having one as does Toyota. A high output hurricane with a hybrid setup would slot just under a trx so it really wouldn't be in the way especially if it was offered in the luxury trims. The real question is, when will stellantis find a way to put a hemi back in the charger.

RETRO COOL......

Honest to god, of the Mopar pickups the Jeep is getting the better powertrain upgrade.

The 2.0T with the ZF and place to plug it in.

Loud, Slow, Ticky, and Thirsty is no way to go through life son.

Hemi, should have been phased out through proper marketing of other powerplants. It was a profound PR and marketing error, not to bring the customer along.

And why don't we already have a RamCharger with 4xe version?...... EV, REV, and Hybrid ... would have made a lot of sense and would have been a faster path to market.

OH that is awesome news. The standard G/T exhaust on all trims makes me want one even more. This is great.

I do understand the reasoning for bringing it back in eTorque form but I do hope that after these are on dealer lots Ram will continue to work toward a non-MDS, non-hybrid option. I just want a plain ol' V8 that's reliable and dependable and inexpensive to maintain for years.

Why in the world would you want a hybrid transmission for that platform? The 48 volt system is the eTorque system. The MGU aids in acceleration to boost fuel economy. They already axed the Ramcharger because they saw it wasn't going to sell well. You haven't seen a "hybrid transmission" because the vehicle would have to be a plug in hybrid like the 4xe or pacifica. And they're ****.

The ZF is not like the Pacifica.... It replaces the Parasitic Torque converter with 150+ HP. The eTorque is band aid. Extra Extra... not better.

RamCharger isn't axed. Just the long range EV.

I belive Bob said during a YouTube video that Jeep is having issues with the Hurricane 4 and may keep the Pentastar as a an option. Would be a wise decision.

The default setup of the Gen IV ZF 8-speed is the 48V mild hybrid version. The legacy transmission setup with a conventional torque converter is fading away from the consumer market. The eTorque setup, used since 2019 in Ram pickups, is an older generation mild hybrid. The newer mild hybrid generation is the 48V ZF with the P2 e-motor. The BSG remains in the loop because it works best for starting the IC engine while a vehicle is in motion.

Even with high voltage hybrid systems, having a plug isn't a necessity. Most high voltage hybrids offer a plugin version as an option. The reason the Jeep Wrangler and Grand Cherokee 4Xe models are PHEV is because Stellantis received some EV credits for selling them.

The Ramcharger is still a go. It will be late however.

Why not have a plug and top the battery off for cheap.. Love ours.

As I said before, I'm glad the Hemi is back, but the 5.7L Hemi V8 needs a bit of upgrading. For me, I'm all about the STLA Large & frame platform vehicles and honestly yes, the 5.7L Hemi V8 will physically fit in the engine bay of an STLA large platform vehicle so it will fit in the Charger. I still give the Hurricane-6 a bit of praise for it's out of the box power and potential but when it comes down to it, the Hemi V8 should have it's home continue to be under the hood of Dodge and Ram vehicles. While the 5.7L is great for the trucks, I would really love to see an updated 440hp 6.1L return as the replacement for the Charger 5.7L R/T and an updated 525hp 6.4L return for the Charger Scat Pack (renamed Super Bee) and then the 804hp 6.2L return for the Charger Daytona and finally an 840hp Demon 6.2L return for the Charger SRT8. Same goes with the Ram. Have the 395hp 5.7L Ram 1500 options and the 420hp Ram 1500 Options like in the Big Horn, Rebel and Warlock and then a 440hp 6.1L Ram 1500 R/T, a 520hp Ram 1500 Rumble Bee, a 550hp RHO, a 790hp Ram 1500 TRX, an 804 Ram 1500 Daytona and an 840hp Ram 1500 SRT8. There is still enough room in the Mopar lineup for the Hurricane-6 in vehicles such as the Grand Cherokee, the Wrangler and the Gladiator (where inline-6 engines belong) along with the upcoming midsize truck (hopefully Dakota). Jeep is literally the perfect home for Inline-6 engines because of the I-6 4.0L dating back to the AMC days. Having the Hurricane-6 doing most of its duty here along with a gen-2 4Xe hybrid setup truly makes sense when your really look at the history of the Mopar lineups. Even the EVs have their place in the Mopar umbrella at Chrysler with the return of a sleek STLA Large Chrysler 300M(S.O)/300M Special (H.O) sedans along with a pair of STLA LArge 2 & 3 Row SUVs named New Yorker (S.O 2-row) and Fifth Avenue (H.O 3-row) and even a full size SUV named the Chrysler Imperial with an H/O hybrid option utilizing the ZF 8-speed hybrid setup and the Ramcharger setup. To be honest, I'd actually love to see a Chrysler 300S with an 800V EV Tri-Motor setup, semi-solid state batteries, 3-speed gearbox AWD, etc. as a 1,320hp Model-S Plaid Killer along with a 670hp Chrysler 200S sedan designed to destroy the Tesla Model-3 performance and a 1,320hp Chrysler Concorde S to stomp all over the Model X Plaid and lastly a 1,320hp Chrysler Town & Country Pickup truck to dethrone the Tesla Cyber Beast! I picked those names with meaning because a pickup truck named Town & Country displays both elegance and ruggedness all wrapped in a classic luxury truck package, the Concorde was the worlds fastest commercial jet with trans-Atlantic trips in around 2-hours so it has both luxury and impressive and unmatched speed. the Imperial because there should be nothing made in America above it as a vehicle, as its name exudes Royalty. and the Fifth Ave & New Yorker should always have it's riders in that empire state of mind. The Imperial should have the Chrysler building embroidered on the seats and as the start up screen display and as them emblem on the sides and rear of the full-size SUV, the Fifth Ave should have trim levels such as Manhattan, Harlem, and Central Park with something that symbolizes each area. Mopar EVs should have character they should have luxury, yet they should still have grit. This is a different kind of luxury, a different kind of EV. It should mean something. I unapologetically want to see Mopar go head to head with Tesla and dethrone the EV king and have it's own Tax Credits to dish out! Yes I want to see the Mopar brands on top of everything! EVs included. If there is a market for it MOPAR should dominate it! EVs, hybrids, Pick ups, SUVs, Crossovers, Muscle cars, commuter cars, commercial etc. Mopar in this country should be right at the top of every list! The Hurricane Six also has a place in the Dodge lineup as well, as does the new 2.0L Hybrid Hurricane-4. The Hurricane-4 should replace the aging 3.6L gas engine as a better, more powerful & efficient powertrain and be offered in the base model Charger and Durango. Not to mention Dodge needs a full size SUV to compete with the Tahoe, Suburban, Yukon, Sequoia, and the Expedition along with a two-row SUV about the size of a Palisade/Telluride/Santa-Fe, Honda Pilot, Acura MDX, Chevy Traverse, etc. that slots under the Durango along with a smaller one as a Gen-2 Hornet and a compact truck to deal with the Maverick. a RWD based Rampage pickup truck on the STLA Large platform would do well against the Maverick, especially with a 390hp 2.0L Hurricane-4 Hybrid. Put that same engine in a STLA-Large Hornet and now you have a vehicle that beats out the Chevy Trax the Honda CRV and other crossovers in that space. A Dodge Aspen (since they already misused the Ramcharger name) could be a beautiful full-size Dodge SUV with the Hurricane-6 powertrains that gives Dodge a much fuller lineup. A Dodge Dart coupe on the STLA Large platform that's smaller than the Charger coupe designed to destroy the mustang with AWD, a bigger back seat, a hatchback and a trio of Hurricane engines including a 390hp Hurricane-4 Hybrid Dart GT, a 420hp Hurricane S/O Dart GTS and a 550hp Dart Demon H/O Hurricane-6, all designed to beat the N/A 5.0L V8 in a drag race and around any track ever made would literally see Mopar back on top of the game

Real question is could MDS be dropped with ZF Hybrid, allowing at cruise speeds the engine to drive only the inverter at nearly idle speed or very little loading?

Besides the water pump the heads have been notorious fickled. Build something light and durable and less complex.
