FCA and PSA formally agree to merger:Merger Wednesday

I think the deal gets done, and I don't see really any changes in North America, with Jeep in Europe I see a massive line up expansion.

Any chance for Luca de Meo as the next CEO, after Tavaresh?

the rules for ownership in Japan and Korea make those mergers extremely difficult.

Agree about Hyundai-KIA, Not in the case of TATA's pride & ego just have to settle for being a Mopar Shareholder.

I wonder what will happen with the LCV production in Mexico? The lines there are at capacity with Ram Promaster demand caused by fleet orders from Amazon Prime and the USPS. While it is a good problem to have, adding Peugeot and Citroen vans into the mix for Latin America, (as Fiat has recently done with the Brazilian Ducato) will strain plant capacity even more.

FCA and PSA already share van IP.

I'm talking about the production facilities. The combined FCA-PSA will be a dominate force globally in light trucks. Fiat and Citroen have been sharing LCV platforms since the 1970s and also a long time with Peugeot. They need to expand capacity for Latin America.

During today's Conference Call mister Tavaresh didn't mention any platform by name. It's suspicious I must say.
In addition to this he was very political and very obeyed to European politicians. For example about further CO2 reduction for 2030. On the another hand suppliers are all in for relaxed limits.

On the other hand Mike Manley was much more keen to give direct answers. For example platform sharing is not necessary. Engines, electric motors, batteries can be shared across different platforms. Sheer volume will bring cost savings.

I would say that between FCA and PSA it's still far from final arrangements. About future product development strategy.

In addition to this they've said that because of antitrust laws they can't go in joint development before it's cleared. So maybe another year of wait for start of joint development and product planning.

I would target Honda but as with any other Far East company it's difficult for European or American to run it. There will be too much obstacles.

Yes, that's an interesting question. I think that FCA's Mercosur Ducato production is located in Mercosur.

It will be interesting to see how will they combine dealerships in both Mercosur and EU.

Potential corporate names (only slightly serious)

Alliance Automobiles
Amalgamated Auto
Imperial Auto
Acme Auto
Honcho

AutoExpress Interview:
The Peugeot brand boss could imagine the next 108 to use the 500 electric platform and a new, bigger Peugeot to use FCA tech (-> Giorgio). But it's not allowed to study the possibilities until the merger is done.

I guess the recent re-decision to keep the 108 going is already based on that possible future. And I think the possible Giorgio sharing with Peugeot should help Alfa to get projects and make money.

Peugeot on Giorgio? IMO it's not much different than a Fiat on Giorgio.

DS on Giorgio? That's something completely different.

I will repeat something. I'm not convinced that PSA has better engineering team FCA. I think it's vice versa. I would even say that success of PSA is due to their aftersales and marketing team.
Their cars mechanic even on LCV is not known as sturdy. They are selling them on price.
Their infotelematics system is underdeveloped. But somehow their marketing had succeeded in convincing people how advanced they are.
Their platforms and mechanics doesn't look advanced and they are electrification game. For example they don't offer but engines, their small diesel 1.5 is more advanced that the bigger 2.0. they don't offer modular petrol/gasoline engine family not to mention 2.0 engine, no independent rear suspension on compact cars, no mechanical AWD on any car. They don't have a dedicated BEV platform or combined ICE/PHEV/BEV platform which mimics dedicated "skateboard" BEV platforms. For example their BEV products like new 208 have poorly integrated batteries which is also true for PHEVs like 3008 which has both compromised trunk and fuel tank capacity.

And so on and on...
But they are successful and above all they are profit leaders in Europe.
Chapeu to their marketing team!
