Dodge fans frustrated by the lack of a HEMI® V8 engine and traditional muscle car features in the Charger Daytona may have reasons to stay optimistic. At the 2025 Detroit Auto Show, Dodge CEO Matt McAlear spoke to Motor1, addressing the car’s inability to perform standing burnouts and a possible future to V8 power.

V8 this thing and sales skyrocket
Considering that the V8 was not the volume seller I'm not sure "skyrocket" is the word to use. especially if the V8 is 90k.

Had the pleasure of test driving an R/T yesterday. The car is great - warts and all. Fratzonic is definitely gimmicky but also cool as it gives the EV a great feel at start up, idle and while driving. I did a bunch of pulls (0-60, 20-75 etc) and the car is fast - feels like warp speed when laying into the throttle from a slow roll. That said, whether it's the weight or the programing - the low end power delivery is neutered in "Auto" mode. What I mean is that when putting my foot in it from a dead stop nothing happened - just a delay before the power came on and progressed into the power band. When accelerating hard from a slow roll, there was no tire spin or unhinged rear kick out movements like a RWD Hemi - just a planted car taking off in a very controlled manner. Sport mode is a hoot and very fast. I did noticed the clunk of the motor when lifting my foot off of the break at a dead stop - it was annoying. This sound/feeling was noted by "Out of spec reviews" and "Gjeebs" - the latter mentioned in his review that the clunk was brought up to Dodge at the Arizona test drive event and they replied that they might consider an over-the-air update to address it. Contrary to a minority of reports, I can confirm that the car handles phenomenally well on road - reminded me of an Alfa Romeo Giulia that I drove years ago. This was my first experience with an EV and it was a good one. That said, the range seemed worrisome to me. The car had a 60% charge and 151 miles of range. On a roughly 4 mile test drive the range dropped about 10 miles - granted I did the aforementioned pulls (I did see 1-2 miles added back on with regenerative breaking). Anyone have experience/insights into the range? There are pretty good lease offers and I'd consider the Daytona regardless of the Sixpack coming soon. We don't know what the price of the Sixpack will be or what finance/lease offer (if any) they'll have and 8k taken off the sticker of the Daytona paired with the lease promo went a long way with me... We'll see.

This weekend major parts of the country will be in a polar vortex. Where I live we will see double-digit below zero degrees F, although the highs will be in the minus single digits with Arctic sunshine. What Dodge needs to do is offer snowmobile suits in their accessory clothing line, because running the heater in an EV decimates the range. I suggest some winter clothing designs with the Brass Monkey theme Dodge is currently using. Very appropriate for an EV in Arctic temperatures.

New York State basically banned carbon fuels....

I received some information today for those concerned about the all-new, all-electric Dodge Charger Daytona having a 'bricking' issue. According to my source, Stellantis released these vehicles to dealers, knowing that dealers would have to perform a series of recalls at launch. However, when dealers receive the cars there is supposed to be a procedure to ensure that the cars get the latest software patch, and some dealers aren't doing it. This explains the bricking problem. Stellantis needs to follow up with dealers to ensure they follow these procedures properly. We will have a series of recalls issued within the next month, which is something that is expected.

Hurricane X is a crate engine.
When it is certified for the street, how much will it be defined.
AMG is an example. A soulless high horsepower I4 wasn’t selling. So, they are coming back with I6 and V8 for their new coupe.
You can have a higher horsepower on paper, but at some $$$, some people would like to have a V8.

CAT X is for drag racing purposes only.

Bricking is so common with EV launches does anyone bat an eye anymore?

I get it an excuse for the Anti-EV crowd to crow, like ICE cars never have integration issue.... I know Dodge working hard to avoid it at hands of customers.

Well you wouldn't because the Hurricane X is already making 1000 hp. The idea you have to have V8 is incorrect. Again a V8 is more complex and the head securing geometry is more difficult.

But yes JUST for heritage reasons do a V8 expensive and exclusive V8 car.
As usual, incorrect. There’s nothing remotely “more complex” about a V8. It’s something you’ve lied about a thousand times on here.

Show us the 6 making north of four digits. Let’s see how it holds up compared to a. 8. It’s on borrowed time and we haven’t even seen one off paper.

You will always (ALWAYS) make more power with a V8 compared equally to a 6. Simple basic engineering and math.

And don’t mention diesel. You’re wrong and it’s not a comparison. It’s a miracle Cummins’ make the power they do breathing through holes barely larger than a thumb….good ol’ diesel
