Discovering the Chrysler That Never Was

Discovering the Chrysler That Never Was

A Personal Encounter with the 1996 Chrysler Lugano Concept

During a recent trip to Los Angeles, I decided to break away from the usual tourist traps and spend a day immersing myself in car culture with the family. While the original plan was centered on Disneyland and family fun, I couldn’t pass up the chance to visit the Petersen Automotive Museum, a bucket-list stop for any true gearhead.

As a Chrysler Crossfire roadster owner I know something important. I was driving my Crossfire around my area on Long Island yesterday, top down, beautiful weather, heading to Louie’s restaurant in Port Washington and I turned to my wife and said ………. “ buying this car was one of the best decisions in my life”…………… A 2006, it runs like a finely tuned watch, handles curves like it’s on railroad tracks and truly looks so great even after so many years. I’ll never part with my Crossfire in my lifetime.
Why was that drive on Long Island’s North Shore so important? It is proof that, even in a partnership relationship for its fundamentals, a Chrysler sports car has a market to fill and smiles to be put on happy faces. Chrysler had the right idea here with the Lugano and another Crossfire would be perfect. That is something I know first hand. They sold almost 80,000 of these Crossfires in four years.
That’s 80,000 smiling faces that know something important. Time to build another Crossfire and Maserati has the fundamentals to get it done in Crossfire style. I’d call that darn important!
