If there is one thing about us, we are deeply passionate about the Mopar brands and we are all concerned about the future of our beloved company. The are some really rough times as this industry (and our country) are going through so much turmoil and there seems to be no end. Yeah, it is weird to think of a Chinese company owning one of our brands but is it any different than a German company owning it or Italian or whatever Stellantis is? When you really think about it, the Mopar brand has been owned by outside corps since around 1998 when Daimler got involved with the company. Ever since then, we've been owned by a foreign auto group as it went from Daimler, to FCA, which was Italian and now Stellantis. Even before that from around 1985 thru 1995 the company was partnered with Mitsubishi forming DSM (Diamond Star Motors) which gave us some pretty decent performers for their day. The craziest part of this is the fact that China actually understands the American market more than any of the rest of the countries out there (minus Australia) as they are big on Ford vehicles and the Mustang has had a huge impact in the Chinese car culture. In all honesty, BYD might be able to improve on certain aspects of the upcoming cars in alot of different ways. I understand that in alot of ways, alot of us are big on the traditional ways of doing things but this is a different world and like everything, this industry has evolved and if Mopar doesn't, it dies and I don't think any of us want that. While we may not call this new Charger a muscle car by traditional standards, it is the next generation of Mopar performance and even though we aren't all for the way that Stellantis is operating, I think we should be appreciative that they are trying to offer something that still is geared towards performance and an enjoyable, engaging driving experience. with the Hurricane powertrains and EV powertrains. Beyond reaching practical limits for the hemi powertrain, which has been shown by the Demon 170, the new Charger Banshee could have the potential to have 1,005hp with a tri-motor setup on the 800V architecture with the new solid state batteries, both of which offer faster charging time and weight reduction along with increased power and extended driving ranges, a three-speed gearbox that improves acceleration, offers better torque management, offers a more organic feeling and can improve handling characteristics and the fratzonic system making the car loud. I can only imagine the violent insanity of what driving something like this would be like, especially with a dynamic suspension system and big Brembo brakes. Not to mention Stage packages. It will have a low center of gravity being an EV with a rear-biased AWD setup so it will feel like a car should as will any performance vehicle on the STLA Large platform and potentially the STLA Medium platform since it can support an 800v system as well. Me personally, I'm interested in seeing what the aftermarket will offer for both of these cars.
What I will say about BYD is that it's car has a beautiful and luxurious interior so the quality is definitely there. I don't think we will ever have to worry about the Mopar brand cars becoming anything like a Tesla, even if they are electrically powered. As for the next Charger & potentially Stealth SUV, I feel like these car are going to take everything that made the L-platform cars so wonderful and seriously improve on that. I could be wrong, but I think we're in for a hell of a good time with these next gen vehicles, both hurricane & EV.
